December is a full month packed into a few short weeks. The children become quite anxious and excitable this time of year and parents, and teachers, do not have enough hours in the day (or energy) to complete all those unending tasks. With the holiday rush, long lines at the mall and heavy traffic on the roads “take time to make time”. It is important to take a few deep breaths, ask our Heavenly Father for a little extra patience and make extra time to share those special moments with your family. Day One will be collaborating in a service project with the church by collecting nonperishable food items. Each child received a grocery bag in their cubby with a list of desired items. Items will be distributed to Lighthouse Christian Ministries, Whitcomb Elementary and Space Center Intermediate to help supplement families with children home for two weeks over the Christmas break. Let your child help you pick out items at the store so they may experience the joy felt by giving to those in need. “Whatever you did for the least of my brothers, you did it for me.” Matthew 25:31-46 Please make note of the following dates on your calendar: 2 December This Sunday starts the Advent Season. Gloria Dei has prepared a family devotional for you to download from the web site at www.gdlc.org as your family prepares the way for the Christ child. The devotional is designed to dig deeper into a different Christmas Carol each week with Bible readings and activities to share with your children. This First Sunday of Advent begins with lighting the Candle of Hope and with an invitation in “O Come All Ye Faithful” to come meet Jesus. 3 December

SCRIP orders are due.

9 December

The Second Sunday of Advent begins with lighting the Candle of Love. Gods reminds us in “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” that He will guide and direct us through all of our uncertainties. Carols and Bells Worship Service (9:30am traditional or 11am contemporary) includes the jingle bells for everyone to ring throughout the service together. If you have a favorite bell, bring it with you! This Christmas service is a great interactive experience with your children making it an annual favorite.

16 December

The Third Sunday of Advent begins with lighting the Candle of Joy and fills us with hope in “O Holy Night” as we are lead from the darkness of our transgressions and into the light of God.

18 December

“The Littlest Christmas Tree” will be presented by the children in the Tigers class and older at 6:45pm on stage in the Life Center Auditorium. Children performing are asked to wear their red and green Christmas attire.

19 December

You are invited to a special Parent Chapel at 11:00 teaching the children about the Shepherds at the crib of the Christ Child (Luke 2:6-18) including a Shepherd Scavenger Hunt. Chapel will be immediately followed lunch afterwards.

23 December

The Fourth Sunday of Advent begins with lighting the Candle of Peace. We reflect in “Away In A Manger” on not only the incredible gift of His son Jesus but the manner in which He presented our Savior to us. See Christmas Services Schedule Below

Childhood memories we hold so dear to our heart begin during special times: baking cookies; cooler weather; Christmas carols; holiday gatherings; gift giving; shopping; receiving from those dear to us; sitting by the fire; festive decorating; sharing Christmas stories and being with those we love.

My Christmas prayer for you is that you will experience the joy of God’s greatest gift, the birth of our Savior - through the eyes of a child - through the eyes of your child.

“I thank God for the gift of a child. Yours and His” Christmas Blessings, Kathie Walker
