STANDING (IF ABLE)

God calls us to worship Liturgist: All: Liturgist: All: Liturgist: All:

from Psalm 106:1; 34:3, 8, 10; 116:13

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Taste and see that the LORD is good. I will li5 up the cup of salva8on and call on the name of the LORD. Come, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together, for those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

We praise God O God, Our Help in Ages Past Hymnal #52

Text: Isaac Watts 1719 Tune: attr. William Croft c. 1700

We pray for God to help us worship Pastor: All:

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! He died for us that we might live for him.

God calls us to confess our sin Liturgist:

from John 14:6; 1 John 1:6, 9

Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not pracZce the truth. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. page 1

God of truth, you have called us out of darkness to walk faithfully in the light of your word and to persevere in confessing the truth revealed in Jesus. But we are o5en a people who o5en choose the darkness of falsehood rather than the light of truth. We reject what you have clearly revealed without any good reasons. We too easily believe lies about you and about ourselves: that Jesus cannot save, that you will not forgive, that your presence and power are not sufficient, that persevering in faith is not worth the effort and struggle. Or we know and profess truth about you without abiding in the truth in ac8on: by ignoring truth that makes inconvenient demands, by denying the truth to protect ourselves, by twis8ng the truth for our own gain. Lord, have mercy on us. (silent prayers of confession)

Liturgist:

Gracious Father, please forgive us for turning away from the truth you have given us and rescue us from believing and living in the darkness of lies and falsehood. Fix our eyes firmly on Jesus and lead us by your Spirit so that we will walk in the truth with integrity and persevere in trusZng and confessing you always, through Jesus Christ your Son.

STANDING (IF ABLE)

God declares our forgiveness Liturgist:

In Christ we have redempZon through his blood, the forgiveness of our sins, according to the riches of his grace. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvaZon, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance unZl we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

All:

from Ephesians 1:7, 13-14

For all who have turned from sin in sorrow and look to God for mercy, this is God’s gi`. In Jesus Christ, God loves you, God forgives you, God accepts you, and God rejoices over you as beloved daughters and sons. Hallelujah, Amen!

Lord, I Believe

Music: arr. L. Shackley

Chancel Choir; Nancy Mayo, keyboardist

I believe in God the father, maker of all heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ, our savior, God’s own son, of matchless worth; by the Spirit was conceived, of the virgin Mary born, he in whom I have believed: God almighty, three in one. I believe, Lord, I believe!

Suffered under PonZus Pilate, crucified, for me he died. Laid within the grave so silent, gates of hell he opened wide. For the stone-sealed tomb was empty; on the third day he arose into heaven, made his entry, mighty conqu'ror of his foes. I believe, Lord, I believe!

At God’s right hand he is seated, Zll his coming, as he said; final judgement will be meted to the living and the dead. I confess the Holy Spirit, who was sent through Christ the Son to apply salvaZon’s merit: God the Spirit, three in one. I believe, Lord, I believe!

I believe the church of Jesus, universal, e’er remains; we are one through all the ages, in communion of the saints. I believe sins are forgiven, that our bodies will be raised to eternal life in heaven: ever let his name be praised! I believe, Lord, I believe! page 3

We pray for the church and the world Liturgist:

(prayers for the church and the world)

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into tempta8on, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

God feeds us at his table Central Presbyterian welcomes all ChrisZans who acZvely trust in Jesus Christ for salvaZon, who are willing to forsake their sin, and who are members of congregaZons that proclaim the gospel to receive Holy Communion with us. If you are not ready to receive communion, you may simply pass the elements by. We also urge you to meditate on one of the prayers below. Bread: The bread is gluten-free. Ea)ng and drinking: Please eat and drink as you receive the bread and the cup when you are ready. We will not hold the elements and wait to eat unZl all have been served. Prayer for those searching: Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Help me to be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent and convincing and that leads to the life you promise. Amen. Prayer of new belief: Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared believe, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen. Music for Communion: Calvary, Naima Warhs (below) Here Is Love (page 6)
