STANDING (IF ABLE)

God calls us to worship Liturgist: All:

from Psalm 50:15; 34:3, 10

The sovereign Lord says, “Call upon me in the day of trouble, and I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.” So come, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together, for those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

God calls us to confess our sin Liturgist:

from John 10:14-15; Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said, “I am the good shepherd. I know my own, and my own know me, and I lay down my life for the sheep. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

page 2

We confess our sin All (sing): stanzas 1 and 2 of “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” (below) Liturgist: All:

Eternal Father, our mighty fortress, you are an ever-present help in suffering, our health and salva_on through life and death. But we forget you when we hurt, and so we forget your purpose and your power. In fear and exhausFon, we try to bury our pain with endless entertainment and daily distracFon. In despair, we spurn the ever-present comfort of your Spirit, and we grieve without hope in your promise to deliver. Lord, have mercy on us. (silent prayers of confession)

Liturgist:

Father, forgive our despair in suffering. Forgive our fear born of unbelief. Teach us to bring the pain of our afflic_on to you and to comfort others with the comfort we receive from you. Fix our eyes firmly on Jesus, the man of sorrows who has swallowed up death’s s_ng and lives that death may die.

STANDING (IF ABLE)

God declares our forgiveness Liturgist:

At present, we do not yet see everything in subjec_on to Jesus. But we see him who for a lidle while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. For it was fieng that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many to glory, should make the founder of their salva_on perfect through suffering. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salva_on.

All:

from Hebrews 2:8-10; 5:9

For all who have turned from sin in sorrow and look to God for mercy, this is God’s gif. In Jesus Christ, God loves you, God forgives you, God accepts you, and God rejoices over you as beloved daughters and sons. Hallelujah, Amen!

We praise God
