Gathering Around The Word

Call to Worship

Leader: Storytelling God, we come to this place to hear the stories of our faith. People: In our worship, bring the words of our ancestors to life, and help us to enter into these stories of hope. Leader: Storytelling God, we recognize your presence in the stories of our lives. People: In our worship, remind us that you call us by name, you hold our lives in your hands, and you weave us together into holy community. Leader: Storytelling God, you are still writing a story of love. All: In our worship, prepare us to tell your story to the world. Let us worship God!

God of each moment,we tend to separate our lives into work and play, labor and rest. We are prone to seeing the world through binaries and categorizing things accordingly. We have trouble allowing our faith to inform the entirety of our lives; we struggle to see our work as a calling or a means by which we can enact our beliefs. Remind us that all of our work is for your glory, and help us to act accordingly. Amen.

*Words of Forgiveness

Leader: Friends, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel: People: We are saved by grace through faith. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Amen.

Rev. Jessie Light-Wells

We respond to God’s grace through our Christian vocation. In Baptism we offer our whole lives in service to God, and are empowered by the Holy Spirit with gifts for ministry in Jesus’ name. Therefore we are called to honor and serve God at all times and in all places: in our work and play, in our thought and action, and in our private and public engagements… Whatever our situation, we have opportunities each day to bear witness to the power of God at work within us. Therefore, for Christians, worship, work, and witness cannot be separated.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
