Series at a Glance for Elevate (continued) Lesson 1: Dizzying Times Some days feel like everything is changing. You might not understand a lesson, have an argument with your best friend, or even move to a new place. The great news is, whatever happens, God will always have a plan for you, and He will always be the same. This week, we’ll find out how a man named Daniel trusted God, even through a difficult time. Lesson 2: Singled Out Step onto the stage, the spotlight is on you! What do you do? Sometimes, choosing what God says is right will mean living differently from others. This week, we’ll see that following God is worth it, even when it means standing out. Lesson 3: Brain Games How does your mind work? Do you prefer reading a book, or watching a movie? Would you rather write a story, or tell a story out loud? Every person’s mind is different, but God designed them all! This week, we’ll hear how Daniel helped a king with some confusing problems, and see that however your mind works, God made it for a reason! Lesson 4: Partner Up Some obstacles can’t be conquered alone. Who do you have on your team? Sometimes friends, family, and other people can help us, but there is only one who will always be there, wherever you are. This week, we’ll see how God can help us when our problems seem too big to handle alone. Lesson 5: Which Way? When you face an important choice, how do you decide which way is right? For Daniel, that decision was simple, because he trusted God’s way, no matter what. We can trust God in the same way today! Lesson 6: The Champion This week, we’ll hear how God’s Son, Jesus, overcame every obstacle to give us the chance to have a relationship with God. He is the greatest example of how to live, and the one we can trust with our lives, because He gave His life for us.

Series Title Slide: Wipe Out

Sometimes, life feels like a never-ending obstacle course. You get over one thing, and there’s another problem just waiting. Sometimes, you might feel like nothing can stop you, and other times you may just want to give up. For the past few weeks, we’ve been talking about different obstacles we face, from friendships to making tough choices. Today, we’re going to play some games, sing with some great music, and hear a story about someone amazing. If life is an obstacle course, this person is the champion. How do I know? We’ll find out in a few minutes. First, let’s get started with a team tournament! Game Title Slide: Take Off!

Each of your team leaders has a giant sheet of paper. Your job is to turn it into the coolest, most awesome paper airplane ever. Your team can draw on it, add things to it, but don’t forget to fold it! After five minutes, I’m going to call your group leaders up here to fly your planes! Whichever group’s goes the furthest, wins! Are you ready? Wipe Out Lesson 6 February 9/10 5

Know This: The leaders should each have a handout, showing them how to fold a basic paper airplane. With older kids, the leaders can let them talk about how to fold the plane, adapt it, and try different things. With younger kids, leaders should probably fold the plane on their own, and let the kids color it and name it.

Go ahead and look for your group flags! Once you get to your flags, I’ll start the five minute countdown, and you can start designing your planes. Ready? Go! 5:00 Countdown and fun game music! Game Title Slide: Take Off!

Alright, it’s time to try out your flying creations! Leaders, bring your planes up here! Know This: If there is time, you can ask the leaders what their plane’s name is.

Now it’s time to find a champion! Leaders, you’re going to fly your planes straight out from the stage! Audience, you can’t touch them, blow on them, or anything. Whoever’s goes the furthest, wins! Cheer if you think your group is going to win! Let’s find out! Ready, set, go! Wow! Whose plane got the furthest? The __________ team are the winners of “Take Off!” Thank you, leaders, you can go and get your planes, while the rest of us answer a big question, our Question of the Day! Question of the Day Video (Auto Advance) QOTD Slide: What is an award would you like to win?

What is an award you would like to win? It could be a hockey Stanley Cup, a Nobel prize, or even an award you make up yourself, like “Best potato farmer ever.” Turn to someone next to you, and talk about that question! Do This: Interact with the kids as they answer.

Series Title Slide: Wipe Out Wipe Out Lesson 6 February 9/10 6

You’re all going to accomplish some great things! It feels good to win at something, but it can take a lot of practice and work, too.

15:00 Group Time Countdown (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Wipe Out Do This: Make sure each kid finds their group. Help group leaders if there is a need. Encourage kids as they work to answer the question. Know This: This time is designed for kids to interact and deepen their understanding. They won’t get all the answers, but we can allow them to question and discover as much as possible. Do This: Give the groups a warning about one minute before this time is up.

That is completely amazing. Jesus, God’s own Son, loves you, and me.

Application

What Rue said is really important to know. Big Idea Slide: “I can follow God’s Son Jesus.”

Every one of us was made to know God, to live for Him, and to follow Him with our whole life. Jesus gave His life to make sure nothing could stand between us and God. You can choose to follow Him right here, right now, and you can know that He’ll always be with you. Whatever happens, wherever you are, God will be by your side, helping you, leading you, and loving you. Nothing can stop Him loving you, or separate you from Him again, because of what Jesus did. If you’ve already made that choice, that is amazing! You have the greatest promise ever, that nothing can ever separate you from God’s love. If you still have questions, or aren’t sure, that’s ok, too. Your questions are so important to God, and to us, so ask them! You can talk to me, or any of the other leaders in here, and we’d love to tell you more, and listen to your thoughts on God, Jesus, the Bible, or anything else. Maybe, though, today is your day. If you want to decide to follow Jesus right now, you can. All you have to do is talk to God, and decide to follow Jesus. In a moment, we’re going to pray, and tell God that we’re sorry for doing things we know are wrong. We’ll thank God for sending Jesus, and tell Him we believe that Jesus died and came back to life, showing that He really is God’s Son. Then, you’ll choose to follow Jesus with your whole life. Now, you can repeat the prayer after me, but saying the words just right Wipe Out Lesson 6 February 9/10 8

isn’t what’s most important. The important thing is, you’re making the decision to follow Jesus always. Now, we’re all going to close our eyes, and talk to God. If you want to make that decision, and follow Jesus with your life, you can say this prayer with me. It could be out loud, or in your head, God hears you either way. Do This: Give kids time after each line to repeat after you.

God, I know that I have sinned. I’ve made bad choices, and I am sorry. I believe that Jesus is your son. I believe that he died on the cross, took my punishment, and came back to life, so that I can be forgiven. Jesus, I ask you now to be my Leader, Savior, and friend forever. I choose to follow you. Amen. If you just made that choice for the first time, congratulations! Congratulations!

You have just made an incredible decision, to love and follow Jesus with your life. If you made that choice for the first time, we have something we’d like to give you! Do This: Show kids the Following Jesus book.

This book can help you get started following Jesus. In a moment, when everyone stands, you can go back to _________, who will give you this book, and tell you more about the adventure that following Jesus is! So, everyone stand up! If you just decided to follow Jesus, you can go with __________ now! Everyone else, let’s take some time to worship God. Wipe Out Lesson 6 February 9/10 9

God’s love for us is just amazing. This song calls it “Overwhelming,” which means it’s more than we can even handle or understand. While we sing, just take some time to think about how much Jesus loves you. He gave His life for you, and wants to know you and lead you, throughout your whole life. His love is powerful, never ending, and overwhelming. Let’s sing about that. Song #1: Reckless Love (Auto-Advance) Worship Slide

Let’s keep on worshipping God with another great song!

Do This: If you can, clap for the kids who just made a decision when they come back into the room. Song #2: Look at Me (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Wipe Out

Wrap-Up

I enjoy singing with you a ton. We’re going to finish by talking to God. Whatever obstacle or choice you’re facing, God cares about you. He loves you and will always listen when you talk to Him, no matter what you want to talk about. Let’s do that now. God, thank you for sending Jesus. Help us to follow Him and know you better every day. Amen. I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with you all today, I hope to see you next week! Wipe Out Lesson 6 February 9/10 10
