It is Good to Give Thanks to the Lord Psalm 92, alt. Andrew Bruhn Children’s Choir

Al Stith, director Ruth Stith, piano

It is good to give thanks to the Lord. To sing praises to your name, O most High! For You alone have made me glad, by Your Word. At the works of Your Hands, I sing for joy!

For as the grass the wicked grow. Those evildoers do not know the endless ruin they will see, but God will reign eternally! All those will fall before His might, the wicked shall be put to flight.

The righteous all will flourish well, and in the house of God will dwell. They will be planted like a tree, and sXll in old age fruiYul be. The Lord our God is upright, just. He is our Rock; in Him we trust.

from Revelation 15:3-4

Come and worship the Lord God Almighty, for great and amazing are all his deeds! Just and true are all his ways! Who will not fear the Lord and glorify his name? For he alone is holy. All na3ons will come and worship him, for his righteous acts have been revealed.

God calls us to confess our sin Liturgist:

from Matthew 11:28-30

Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

confess our sin

All (sing): Trisagion (below); sing 3 Xmes Liturgist: All:

Christ our Champion, you have called us to resist and conquer evil in your way and with your strength. But we try to fight spiritual war with worldly weapons in the strength and wisdom of our flesh rather than your Spirit. We repay evil with evil, boast with boast, anger with anger, insult with insult. We love to take revenge, and we praise those who take pride in vengeance. We oGen confuse meekness with weakness and gentleness with cowardice. And so our thoughts and ac3ons are taken cap3ve by the lies of the evil one. Lord, have mercy on us. (silent prayers of confession)

Liturgist:

Gracious Father, may your gentle kindness turn our hearts back to you. Renew us and lead us by your Holy Spirit’s grace and power to fight spiritual bafles with spiritual weapons of courageous kindness, bold love, humble strength, and gentle answers that turn away wrath. Help us to take every thought capXve to obey you and to walk in a manner worthy of your calling in the unlimited strength and grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God declares our forgiveness Liturgist:

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. He does not deal with us according to our sins, nor repay us according to our iniquiXes.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.

All:

from Psalm 103:8-13

For all who have turned from sin in sorrow and look to God for mercy, this is God’s gig. In Jesus Christ, God loves you, God forgives you, God accepts you, and God rejoices over you as beloved daughters and sons. Hallelujah, Amen!

God baptizes his children

We remember our baptism by professing our faith

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pon3us Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.* The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he shall come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic** church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrec3on of the body, and the life everlas3ng. Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

* “hell” here means the place or state of the dead, not a place or state of punishment. The creed affirms that Jesus experienced the full reality of human death as his soul was severed from his dead body unXl his resurrecXon restored the full unity of his person. ** “catholic” here means universal, not Roman Catholic.
