Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 2

Amplify Series at a Glance for Elevate (continued) Lesson 1: Goodness What does it mean to be good? Does it just mean following the rules and doing what you’re told? That’s a part of goodness, but when it’s amplified, goodness is way more exciting than that. Goodness turns life into an adventure, where you have a chance to change someone’s world every day. Few stories show this better than the parable Jesus told of the good Samaritan. He understood that goodness isn’t just about him. The greatest kind of goodness is about how we treat others! Lesson 2: Kindness and Gentleness When the kid in this week’s story set out to see Jesus, he probably didn’t think he would do anything incredible. When people started to get hungry, the boy offered his lunch, a meal of bread and fish, to Jesus. What Jesus did through this one act of kindness is amazing! In the same way, God works through our kindness today to do incredible things. How could your kindness make a difference this week? Lesson 3: Patience and Self-Control Waiting isn’t always easy. It’s especially hard when things go wrong, or when we have to wait on someone else. That’s when having patience means also using self-control. Samson, one of the judges of Israel, had a problem with both patience and self-control. From pulling dangerous pranks with foxes and fire, to attacking when people solved a riddle he thought up, Samson’s life can show us what happens without this fruit. Lesson 4: Faithfulness Romans 12:15 says “Be joyful with those who are joyful. Be sad with those who are sad.” Sometimes, the best thing you can do for someone is to just stick around. Ruth is an incredible example of a person who knew how powerful being faithful to others could be. Her actions changed the lives of people around her and showed us what amplified faithfulness can do. Lesson 5: Peace Why should I make time for peace? Jesus’ disciples noticed that he often spent time alone, even when hundreds or thousands of people wanted to see him. Jesus knew that peace isn’t just something you have, it’s something you do. Making time for peace amplifies every other part of our life, into something much better than before. Lesson 6: Love and Joy In one of the most dramatic stories of the Bible, Jesus tells of a father who welcomes back his lost son. This story changes the way we see love. Love isn’t just a feeling, it’s a powerful force. When love is amplified, everyone notices. How can we pump up the volume of love in our lives today? Our first step is the same as it was for the lost son, to return to the One who loves us. Then, we can start to love others the same way He does. Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 3

Welcome

1:00

Hey everybody! My name is __________. I’m super pumped to be here with you today. We’re on the last week of our series called “Amplify,” which has been awesome. We’ve got some amped-up games, music, and an incredible story to hear.

Question of the Day

2:00

Let’s get right into it with our question of the day! Question of the Day Video

(Auto Advance) QOTD Slide: What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever eaten?

What’s the grossest thing you’ve ever eaten? Talk about it with some of the people from your squad! Make sure to listen to their answers too. Do This: Emcee as the kids are sharing their answers. Encourage them to share with the people around them, and encourage any kid whose story you hear. Know This: Allow kids time to interact with one another. Feel free to ask a few of them what their answer is, but you don’t have to have them share with the whole group.

Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 5

Those things sound pretty gross. Today, we’ll get to hear a story about a boy who ate some stuff that was probably just as gross as what you were just talking about. Before we hear that story, though, we get to do an activity!

Group Activity

6:00

Game Title Slide: “Foot-Race”

This activity is called “Foot-Race,” and it’s for one boy and one girl. Do This: Quickly choose one boy and one girl to participate. They should be about the same age.

You both are going to have one minute to put on as many pairs of socks as you can. They are big socks, so you have to leave your own socks and shoes on. You have to put one sock on each foot to count as a pair. Everyone else, you get to cheer on your team! Who thinks the boys are going to win this one? What about the girls? Alright, get ready, set, and go! Do This: Have volunteers ready to count the number of pairs of socks the contestants put on, so you don’t have to count afterward. 1:00 countdown and fun game music! (Auto-Advance) Worship Slide and clear audio

Ok, stop! Who got the most pairs of socks? Great job! That was an unusual challenge, but you had some help. Even if you weren’t here on stage, you were a part of this game. Your cheering and encouragement helped your contestant out. Later, we’re going to talk about ways we can help others, encourage them, and bring them joy, but first it’s time to worship God!

Worship

5:00 Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 6

It’s amazing how much God loves to help us. He cares so much about you and me, we can’t even imagine his love for us. That’s why we worship God, to show that we love him, too. People worship in a lot of ways, by praying, by serving others, by singing, by dancing, and by giving to the church, just to name a few ways. Let’s worship God together with this song! Song 1: Rock This Planet (Auto advance) Worship Slide

God’s love for us is so much greater than we can even imagine. One way he shows us love is by always listening when we talk to him. God always cares about what you have to say, because he designed you. He knows everything about you, and cares about your feelings, your story, and everything on your mind. You can talk to Him anytime, but let’s take a minute to talk to Him all together. I’ll talk, and you can think the words along with me. God knows what we’re thinking, even when we don’t speak out loud. God, thank you for bringing us here to Elevate. Help us to learn more about you. Thank you for loving us so amazingly. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Wow. That is rough. It’s never easy to feel unloved or unwanted. I wonder what’s going to happen?

Lesson Intro

1:00 Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 7

We’ll check in with the Light Force again soon, but first we have a question to answer. This series is called “Amplify.” To amplify something means to make it louder or greater. For example, an “amplifier” is a device that makes music louder. Over the past few weeks, we’ve talked about how we can amplify good things like goodness, peace, faithfulness, kindness, and patience. When there are more of these great things in our lives, amazing things start to happen. Today, we get to talk about what may be the greatest one of these things, some things that God gives us a ton of. Those things are love and joy! We use the words love and joy a lot, especially when we are talking about God. I even said earlier that God loves you, but what exactly does that mean? Why is it such a big deal that God loves us? That’s the question for you to answer in group time. You can find your leader by your squad’s flag. Ready, set, go!

Group Time

15:00

(Optional) 15:00 Group Time Countdown Do This: Make sure each kid finds their group. Help group leaders if there is a need. Encourage kids as they work to answer the question. Know This: This is a time for kids to search for answers in the Bible, and see how they can use the Bible to investigate and better understand life. This time is designed for kids to interact and deepen their understanding. They won’t get all the answers, but allow them to question and discover as much as possible. Be ready to support group leaders in any way needed. Do This: Give the groups a warning about one minute before this time is up. When this time ends, transition into the memory verse challenge.

(Auto-Advance) Memory Verse Slide: Galatians 6:9 “Let us not become tired of doing good. At the right time we will gather a crop if we don’t give up.”

It’s time for our memory verse! This verse is from a book called Galatians in the Bible. Just a couple verses earlier, the writer of Galatians, a guy named Paul, writes about the “Fruit of the Spirit.” He says this: “The fruit that the Spirit produces is love, joy, and peace. It is being patient, kind, and good. It is being faithful and gentle and having control of oneself. There is no law against things of that kind.” Paul uses the example of fruit to show us something really important. See if you can find the connection to our memory verse. Do This: Read the verse from the screen.

When we choose to follow Jesus, we will start to create things like joy, peace, and love, kind of like how trees make fruit. The fruit of love and joy isn’t fruit we can eat. It’s the fruit of the Spirit. Our memory verse says we have to keep on trying to get this fruit. A tree doesn’t make fruit the moment it’s planted, you have to wait, water it, and wait some more. We may not see the fruit of the Spirit right away in our lives, but we’ll grow more of it the more we follow God. Let’s say the verse again, but I’m going to put my hand up here as a volume controller. When my hand is high up, say the verse super loud! The lower my hand goes, the quieter we should get. Let’s say the verse together! Do This: Repeat the verse 2-3 times together.

I’m ready to find out what happens to the Light Force! Let’s check in with them again. Light Force: Part 2 (5:00) (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Amplify

There is no Bible Story at the end of this episode. That is intentional. The story happens later in the script.

What a great story! The power of love is amazing. Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 9

Application

7:00

We’ve been trying to answer the question: what does it mean that God loves me? The Light Force squad learned a lot about how awesome God’s love is, but does he really love us like that? I can’t answer that question any better than Jesus did. Sage has a story for us that comes directly from Jesus, and answers our question completely. Let’s see what it’s about. Bible Story: The Prodigal Son (3:00)

That’s the way God loves you. His feelings about you won’t change tomorrow, no matter what you did yesterday. He will never forget you, and never leave you. God has already decided that whatever happens, he will love you. That’s not all God gives, though. When the son returned home, his father ran to meet him, and threw a party! He had so much joy, and he shared it with the son. God wants to give us joy, too. Joy may feel like happiness, but we get joy from how much God loves us. That means it never has to end, because God will never stop loving and caring about us. So, the choice is yours. The prodigal son had a choice, too. He could keep running from his father’s love, or he could go to him. If you haven’t heard how much God loves you, and haven’t decided to follow him, this could be your day. The day you make the most important decision of your life. Following God isn’t always easy, and we all still do wrong things. God’s always there, though. He is always ready to help us and remind us how much He cares about us. That’s how awesome God’s love is. If you aren’t sure if you want to make the choice to follow God, that’s ok. You can think about it, you can ask questions. Questions are great. They show you really care. I would just encourage you, please, ask your questions to a leader here in Elevate. This is the most important choice you will ever make, we want to help you however we can. If you’ve already decided to follow Jesus, that is wonderful! You can encourage your friends as they follow Jesus, or help them learn about him if they don’t know him yet. The story we just heard is a great way to show everyone that Jesus loves them. For some of you, though, this could be your day. You can make the incredible choice to follow Jesus with your whole life. It’s a choice that only you can make. God’s ready, and Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 10

he loves you so much. If you want to make that choice, you can just tell God about it. I’m going to pray in a minute, but know that what is important is your choice to follow God. The exact words aren’t anything special, they just remind us of why this choice is so important. In this prayer, you will say you are sorry for the wrong things you have done, ask God to forgive you, and say you believe Jesus died and came back to life. If you pray this prayer, you will choose to follow God with your whole life. I’ll say each line, and if you want to decide to follow Jesus, you can repeat after me. You don’t have to say the words out loud, God knows what you say in your mind, too. Let’s all close our eyes and bow our heads as we talk to God. Do This: Read this prayer word for word, pausing after each line to allow kids to repeat and keep up.

God, I know that I have sinned. I’ve made bad choices, and I am sorry. I believe that Jesus is your son. I believe that he died on the cross, took my punishment, and came back to life, so that I can be forgiven. Jesus, I ask you now to be my leader, Savior, and friend forever. I choose to follow you. Amen. Congratulations!

If you just made that decision, congratulations! This is the greatest day ever, because you decided to follow Jesus! We want to take that joy that God gives us, and celebrate for you! We’re going to stand, sing, and worship God in here, but if you made that choice for the first time, we have something we want to give you. You can follow ______ in just a moment, and I’ll give that to you, and answer any questions you have about following Jesus! First, let’s have everyone stand up!

Amplify Lesson 6 February 10/11 11

Now, if you made that choice, you can go with ________. We want to give you one of these Following Jesus booklets, and answer any questions you have about the decision you just made. Do This: Show kids the Following Jesus booklet.

If you just made that choice for the first time, you can go with __________. The rest of us get to worship God in here!

Worship

8:00

The way God loves us is amazing! Jesus often called God “Father,” because he loves us like the best father ever. He cares about us, protects us, and helps us. Let’s sing “Good Good Father” together. Song 2: Good Good Father (Auto advance) Worship Slide

That’s an awesome song, because it’s so true. God loves more than we can imagine. Let’s get moving with another awesome song about sharing God’s love with others, called “Rock This Planet.” Song 2: Rock This Planet (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Amplify
