Our help is in the name of the Lord, our hope. Let us confess our sin and sorrow to him.

Leader:

Our faithful Savior, you have come to earth to reveal your glory. You came to liY our heads with eternal hope. But we are prone to forget our hope and its reasons, and to doubt your promise to deliver in our daily lives. You came to lead us into the light of your eternal love. But we have turned from your love to walk in darkness by loving ourselves more than you.

Leader:

You came to bring us into your eternal joy. But we seek our joy in small and flee:ng pleasures that leave us in boredom, bondage, and despair. You came to draw us together in your eternal peace. But we draw apart to live in conflict and division behind high walls of fear and shame. We devour each other in biIerness, we love to take revenge, and our wounds fester unforgiven. Messiah, have mercy on us. (silent prayers of confession) Gracious Father, please liY our heads in hope, and lead our faltering hearts back to you. By your Spirit’s power, help us remember our hope, walk in love, pursue peace in unity, ADVENT CONFESSION RESPONSE and find fullness of joy through Jesus our Messiah when he comes again to conquer all VENI VENI EMMANUEL sin and death by his abundant life.

God declares our forgiveness Liturgist:

from Psalm 130:3-4, 7-8

If the Lord should hold our sins against us, no one could stand. But with the Lord there is forgiveness, that he may be feared. O Israel, hope in the Lord! For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with him is plenVful redempVon. And he will redeem you from all your sins. For all who have turned from sin in sorrow and look to God for mercy, this is God’s giY. In Jesus Christ, God loves you, God forgives you, God accepts you, and God rejoices over you as beloved daughters and sons.

We pray for the church and the world Liturgist:

(prayers for the church and the world)

All:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into tempta:on, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

God feeds us at his table Central Presbyterian welcomes all ChrisVans who acVvely trust in Jesus Christ for salvaVon, who are willing to forsake their sin, and who are members of congregaVons that proclaim the gospel to receive Holy Communion with us. If you are not ready to receive communion, you may simply pass the elements by. We also urge you to meditate on one of the prayers below. Bread The communion bread is gluten-free. Ea(ng and drinking: Please eat and drink as you receive the bread and the cup when you are ready. We will not hold the elements and wait to eat unVl all have been served.

Prayer for Those Searching Lord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Help me to be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent and convincing and that leads to the life you promise. Amen. Prayer of New Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared believe, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Amen. Music for Communion: The Song of Zechariah (next page) page 8
