1. What does it mean to have both wisdom and understanding? Can you think of a time in your life when one or the other was lacking? 2. Why is it sometimes difficult for us to have wisdom with “gentleness?” Why is that essential for the Christian? 3. Discuss the cycle of wisdom (wisdom -> understanding -> good works -> humility). Do you think this is accurate? If so, how do we keep this cycle moving throughout our Christian walk? 4. Why is it easy for us, even as Christians, to become jealous or arrogant in our wisdom (or perceived lack thereof)? 5. Many Christians might say that James is just employing hyperbole in v. 15 when he calls earthly wisdom “demonic.” Is this statement too strong to be interpreted literally? Why or why not?
