Texas Sluggers Black 17U/18U Summer 2015 Season Summary Team Objectives:  Prepare players with the skills necessary for high school and college baseball  Provide exposure to college baseball programs  Learn about the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship  Provide a safe and healthy environment for all players on the team Coaching Staff:  Head Coach – Gerald Young – responsible for all player decisions, field practice plans and game-related decisions. To learn more about Coach Young’s baseball career, Google him.  Assistant Coach – Brandon Hale – first base coach and field practice assistant  General Manager – Ken Beck – responsible for scheduling of practices and tournaments. Interacts with parents concerning team-related issues and news. Team Events: The summer 2015 season will begin May 11th and conclude August 9th. The Sluggers Baseball Club will have a 17U/18U high school tournament team for the summer 2015 season. Tryouts for the team will begin on May 1st and will continue through the end of May. Throughout the summer season, the team will be playing in 6 weekend showcase tournaments across Texas including:      

May 30, 31 – Local Tournament TBD -- Houston June 20, 21 – Premier Baseball of Texas Showcase – Houston June 27, 28 – Letourneau University -- Longview July 11, 12 -- Texas Wesleyan University August 1, 2 – Stephen F. Austin University August 8, 9 – Lamar University

NOTE: the schedule and venues provided are subject to change at any time based on availability. The team will have an optional practice during the week. It is not necessary to attend the practice. Players outside the Houston area that only want to participate in tournaments are welcome to tryout and secure a roster position on the team. They will not be penalized for not attending the practice. Practice frequency, length and format will be adjusted based on player participation and interest. Our practices will be held at Baseball USA. Costs: The summer 2015 season participation fee (May 11th – August 9th) will be $950 (based on an 18 player roster). We ask that you pay half of the participation fee ($475) when you join the team and the remaining half on July 1st. If you leave the team prior to August 9th, your financial obligation continues and no money will be refunded. Included in the summer 2015 season participation fee are the following items: field and cage rental fees, team training fees for Gerald Young, umpire fees, league and tournament fees. NOTE: the uniform fee is not included in the summer 2015 season participation fee. The uniform fee will be an additional $50 and will include a hat and a jersey. Recruitment: Our plan is to compete with an 18 player roster. If we find we are having problems fielding a full roster for tournaments, we will increase the number of players on our roster to address the situation. We will make every effort to accommodate your request. WE ARE RECRUITING PLAYERS NOW!!!! NOTE: to participate on the Sluggers team during the summer 2015 season, you must agree to visit the team website and keep your team availability information up to date for all events. Failure to perform this function could result in negatively impacted playing time for a player.
