and who remains committed to them will be blessed. People like that don’t merely listen and forget; they actually do what God’s laws say.

3. Trust God’s power to help you obey His principles. Church of the Redeemer — Pastor Dale A. O’Shields — April 18 & 19, 2015

#2 Commit To Right Principles Proverbs 9:1-6

Matthew 26:41 (NIV) Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. Obedience to God’s laws and principles:

1.

Accept God’s principles as the right principles for your life. Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT) Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! Proverbs 14:12 (GW) There is a way that seems right to a person, but eventually it ends in death. Matthew 7:13, 14 (NLT) You can enter God’s Kingdom only through the narrow gate. The highway to hell is broad, and its gate is wide for the many who choose that way. But the gateway to life is very narrow and the road is difficult, and only a few ever find it. Matthew 7:24-27 (NIV) Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash. Joshua 24:15 (NIV) But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

2. Become a practitioner of God’s principles. James 1:22-25 (GW) Do what God’s word says. Don’t merely listen to it, or you will fool yourselves. If someone listens to God’s word but doesn’t do what it says, he is like a person who looks at his face in a mirror, studies his features, goes away, and immediately forgets what he looks like. However, the person who continues to study God’s perfect laws that make people free

‣ Demonstrates your trust in God. Psalm 4:5 (GW) Offer the sacrifices of righteousness by trusting the Lord. ‣ Grows your character. Deuteronomy 8:2, 3 (LB) Do you remember how the Lord led you through the wilderness for all those forty years, humbling you and testing you to find out how you would respond, and whether or not you would really obey Him? Yes, He humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to both you and your ancestors. He did it to help you realize that food isn’t everything, and that real life comes by obeying every command of God. ‣ Produces peace in you. Psalm 119:165 (NLT) Those who love your instructions have great peace and do not stumble. ‣ Protects you. Proverbs 19:23 (NLT) Fear of the Lord leads to life, bringing security and protection from harm. ‣ Brings God’s blessings into your life. Deuteronomy 28:2-9 (NIV) All these blessings will come on you and accompany you if you obey the Lord your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock — the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out. The Lord will grant that the enemies who rise up against you will be defeated before you. They will come at you from one direction but flee from you in seven. The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you. The Lord will establish you as His holy people, as He promised you on oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in obedience to Him.
