2014 FUMC SUMMER YOUTH MISSIONS LOCATIONS High School Mission Trip Appalachia Service Project July 19-27 (Jonesville, Virginia) ASP provides one of the most rewarding structured service opportunities in the nation -- bringing thousands of volunteers from around the country to rural central Appalachia to repair homes for low-income families. But ASP is more than just a building program. It creates opportunities to get to know the families of the home you are repairing and build relationships with people from another culture and place. The days are spent repairing houses, which might include porches, flooring, or installing insulation. The evenings range from large group devotions, culture nights, or a picnic with all the families. We culminate each trip with a sometimes emotional, but always connecting, sharing of our week together. To many, this trip is the highlight of our youth program. http://www.asphome.org/

Middle School Mission Trip Motown Missions June 22-28 (Detroit, Michigan) Detroit is hurting. A complete economic collapse has left much of the city as a ghost town. But, organizations like Motown Mission, which provides economic disaster recovery work, and the volunteers who are a part of it are offering light to an otherwise bleak future. Work ranges from home repair, feeding the homeless, and helping “green-up” the city. A United Methodist connected organization, the Motown Mission offers an experience deeply rooted in Wesleyan theology (of doing no harm, learning how to do good, and practicing staying in love with God). http://motownmission.org/    

Stay at historic Metropolitan United Methodist Church. Learn about Detroit’s history and experience great cultural events like live Motown concerts, a Tigers baseball game, museums, worship, and great speakers from around Detroit. Work at project sites from 9am-3pm daily Take afternoon trips to the most fun places in "The D”
