Keynote Speaker Vickie Austin Choices World Wide “Mentors vs. Sponsors: Why Women Need Both” Women in business have long depended on the guidance of mentors, those generous connections who help guide our path. But how many of us have sponsors—and what’s the difference between a mentor and a sponsor? Vickie highlights the critical role of a sponsor on a woman’s career path with references to cutting-edge research from the Center for Talent Innovation as well as her own interviews with successful business women.

9:45 - 10:30

Emotional Intelligence Shelly Hunter, CFO, Mercy Health Joplin/Kansas The ability to be aware of your own emotions and the situational emotions of others is a powerful tool in leadership. Overcoming stress and other emotional impacts in the moment can make your career and knowing can irreparably harm your career. Relationship management, perception, empathy and staying calm are just as key attributes to good leaders as skill and knowledge. Using a calm approach to challenging situations will enhance your ability to lead, bring trust to your team and confidence through complex and trying times.

Keynote Speaker Melinda Hancock, FHFMA, CPA Dixon, Hughes, Goodman, LLP, HFMA National Chair “Innovation of Health Care: Go Beyond” Healthcare is arguably changing faster than ever before. As the industry moves from volume to value, reform is being driven by the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation, State-level efforts and Commercial initiatives as well as changes driven from within one’s own delivery system. Innovation models such as ACOs, Episode Based Payments and Primary Care Transformation are just some of the changes causing finance professionals to reach outside our perceived limits, and yes, Go Beyond these boundaries. These major delivery shifts are only examples of the current changes in play, with more modifications sure to come. In this session, Melinda will identify these areas where finance professionals are being called to Go Beyond in an evolving healthcare environment, discuss what this means from an individual and organizational perspective and describe resources that can help meet these challenges.

Keynote Speaker Dr. Kim Byas, Regional Executive American Hospital Association “Putting the Pieces Together in Health Care Transformation” It’s already proving to be an interesting year in Washington, DC and the remainder is looking unusual, to say the least. Being an election year, we should all be looking for some agendas to be pushed and alliances to be strengthened and new partnerships created. What happens in DC will impact hospitals and health systems between now and January 2017 given that more than 60% of hospital revenues derive from government as a payer source. There are many issues to watch when one is concerned about the future of health care financing. Dr. Byas’ presentation will summarize major Congressional activities of huge importance to hospitals and health systems and provide insights critical to hospitals on pending federal health care regulations and legislation.

Event Center Room D Revenue Cycle of the Future Greg Snow & Brad Cross, Availity Even though more and more patients have access to health care coverage, it is becoming more difficult to collect net expected reimbursement in a more cost efficient methodology. Therefore, “yield” is decreasing, while the “cost-to-collect” is increasing. So it is important to understand what providers need to do in order to receive the reimbursement they are owed. We invite you to take a closer look at consumerism in health care and consider seven strategies for transforming your revenue cycle business into just that – a business. In this session, you will learn which factors are contributing to the enormous pressure on your revenue cycle and which strategies can you put into practice today to improve collections and increase yield.
