MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT Doesn’t it feel like the holidays begin earlier and earlier each year? It seems that Halloween candy is out in the stores the minute school supplies are purchased, and Thanksgiving starts knocking on November 1st. Although I could use a little more breathing room between the celebrations, the holiday spirit does get me thinking about the core competencies of our chamber and our mission statement “A Business Organization that serves to strengthen our member businesses and stimulate regional prosperity.” With the Holidays quickly approaching, what better time than to exercise a mission designed to make your community the best place to live, work and play? Small Business Saturday is November 28, we’re asking the community to kick off the Holiday Season by supporting their favorite local stores, or with businesses or business people that provide services to the local community and help fuel the economy. For small businesses, it’s a chance to combat the overwhelming onslaught of attention that bigger stores get around this time of year. It’s important to support the local businesses because a good percentage of that money stays in the community. As I mentioned, Small Business Saturday is the kickoff….but let’s go bigger! I propose we turn these years event into “Small Business Season”. Patronizing our local restaurants, retail stores, and service providers throughout the entire season, instead of just one day or weekend is the key to Regional Prosperity. There are many ways to shop local - purchasing gifts and gift certificates, using a local restaurant, caterer or grocer for your holiday party, or picking out that special gift at a local store instead of ordering on line. The businesses need our support, and we need a healthy business base to strengthen our communities. Please do your part this season – Shop Local, Shop Often! Please visit www.swmetrochamber.com for a complete listing of businesses in our region that are members of the SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce. Thank you in advance for your support this season! Best regards, Lori Anderson President – SouthWest Metro Chamber of Commerce
