Check In When You Arrive Please don’t forget to check in with one of the tournament officials when you first arrive, to submit your roster and obtain the MVP prizes (3 for U10, 4 for all other divisions) for your coach to award to an opposing player at the end of for each of round robin game.

Locations and Parking All games will be at one of the following parks, depending on your division: (check the schedule) MCCARTNEY CREEK PARK (MCCARTNEY) LYNN VALLEY PARK (LYNN VALLEY) LOUTET PARK (LOUTET)

1575 Larkhall Cres, North Vancouver, BC, V7H 2Z3 3205-3207 Institute Rd, North Vancouver, BC V7K 3E5 898 - 17th St E, North Vancouver, BC, V7L 2X1

Appendix A provides information about each park including an aerial map, parking guidelines, and a Google Maps link [map link]. Please read and follow the parking guidelines in Appendix A and pass this information on to your team. In particular, please pay attention to the high-risk parking and prohibited parking zones around each park, respect all parking bylaws, and be considerate of the neighborhood and residents around the parks. For example, non-residents should not park in the neighborhood North of McCartney Park.

Weather The tournament proceeds rain or shine, unless you are explicitly told otherwise from a Tournament Official. Final determination on whether it is safe to play will be made at the field by the umpires. All teams must show up at the field on time and ready to play. Players and coaches should bring rain gear, extra clothing and blankets for between games, and teams should bring a shelter and chairs.

Field Preparation Both teams need to help with field preparation. Guest teams may check with the opposing team (if a North Shore team) or a Tournament Official for guidance on field equipment and setup.

Score Keeping and Reporting A master scoreboard will be maintained for each division. Both teams need to appoint an official scorekeeper for each game. The scorekeepers are to sit together and keep score, checking with each other throughout the game to ensure they agree—specifically with respect to runs and bases touched. At the end of the game, one Game Summary Sheet is to be completed and signed by both scorekeepers, and then handed in to the person maintaining the master scoreboard. Please print bring at least 6 Game Summary Sheets (there are 3 per page on the attached form). Teams are responsible for bringing their own scorebook and do not need to hand in detailed score sheets. A limited supply of extra Game Summary Sheets may be available at the master scoreboard. If you are in a hurry and need to drop of scores, please pin the Game Summary Sheet to the master scoreboard at McCartney or Lynn Valley. For U12 teams, the U12 Coordinators should be able to collect the Game Summary Sheets after each game.

McCartney Concession The McCartney concession should be open throughout the tournament. There is no concession at Loutet or Lynn Valley—teams playing there will need to bring their own food, water, ice, etc. However, both are close to grocery stores, shops, etc.—Lonsdale Avenue is a 2 minute drive West of Loutet while Lynn Valley Centre mall is within walking distance South West of Lynn Valley Park.

Washrooms Washrooms at McCartney are located on the West side of the concession building. Washrooms at Loutet are located in the building next to the parking lot at the South diamond. Washrooms at Lynn Valley are located on South Side of the community centre building at North end of the field.

Health and Safety In addition to using appropriate softball safety equipment, teams should have their own first aid kit and emergency / medical forms on hand. Coaches, players and spectators are reminded to drink plenty of water and, in the event of warm weather (fingers crossed), to wear sunscreen and stay in the shade between games. Teams are encouraged to bring shelters in the event of wet or hot weather. Please advise all members of your team to walk around the outside edge of the ballpark and the field of play when games are in progress. It is UNSAFE to walk through the grass area in the middle of the McCartney during a game, and umpires may need to pause play in such circumstances.

Garbage and Recycling Please help to keep our parks clean by ensuring all litter and recyclables are properly deposited in the appropriate bin. Please bring a bag so you can take any excess garbage/recycling with you in the event the park containers are full. In addition to small garbage and recycling bins near each diamond, there are larger garbage bins in the parking lot at McCartney.

**North Shore Teams Only** All North Shore Girls Fastpitch teams, please read the notice regarding the season end, which includes instructions for photos and ball toss rewards pickup, equipment drop off, and uniform return. Please note the uniform return process is different this year. The photos and ball toss rewards pickup and the equipment drop-off are at McCartney during the year-end tournament. Please ensure you carefully read and follow the instructions for uniform and equipment return.

Appendix A: Park Maps & Parking Guidelines The following pages include important ball park information and parking guidelines. We urge you to pass this information on to all team members and guests. Please respect all park and parking bylaws and be considerate of the neighborhood and residents around the parks. Note the high-risk (foul ball) and prohibited parking zones around each park. Pets must be on-leash and under control at all times. Owners are required to clean up after their pets.

McCartney Creek Park (our main park) 1575 Larkhall Cres, North Vancouver, BC, V7H 2Z3 [ map link] McCartney has 4 diamonds, a concession, tennis courts and playground. Washrooms are on the West side of the concession building. Diamonds have seating for spectators and scorekeepers. For safety, please walk around the outside perimeter of ballpark (not through the outfield area) when games are in progress. The McCartney parking lot has limited capacity. To avoid vehicle damage from foul balls, don’t park next to Diamond 1 (yellow zone). There’s additional parking (green zone) along Larkhall Crescent and Northlands Drive, East and South of the parking lot entrance. Parking in the neighborhood North of the park (red zone) is not permitted.

Lynn Valley Park 3205-3207 Institute Rd, North Vancouver, BC V7K 3E5 [ map link] Lynn Valley Park is located between Mountain Highway and Institute Road just North of Lynn Valley Road. It has two ball diamonds with spectator and scorekeeper seating. Washrooms are on the South side of the Rec Centre at the North end of the park. There’s no concession but Lynn Valley Centre is within walking distance (to the South West on Lynn Valley Road). To avoid vehicle damage from foul balls, do not park right next to the North diamond. For safety, please walk around the outside of the park to move between diamonds while games are in progress.

Loutet Park 898 - 17 th St E, North Vancouver, BC, V7L 2X1 [ map link] Loutet runs parallel to Rufus Ave for several blocks. The ball fields are located at the North end of both the park and Rufus Ave. There’s two diamonds with both spectator and scorekeeper seating. There’s a small parking lot next to the South diamond. Washrooms are in the building next to the parking lot. To avoid vehicle damage (e.g. foul balls) and for safety, we recommend parking away from the park fence or outside the parking lot—either to the West along 17th Street or to the South along Rufus Avenue. There’s no concession at Loutet but Lonsdale Avenue is a 2 minute drive West. For safety, please use the path outside the fence around the East/North side to get walk to/from the North diamond when games are in progress.

2016 Tournament Rules North Shore Girls Fastpitch Association (NSGFA) Except as noted below, tournaments will be governed by applicable Softball Canada and Softball BC Rules. In the event of a conflict between those rules and the rules below, the rules below shall prevail. The Tournament Director and Umpire in Chief may amend the rules below as needed. 1. Assumption of Risk: All players and coaches must be Softball BC registered and have BC medical coverage. All participants and spectators attend the tournament at their own risk. The parent/guardian accepts such risks for all underage participants/spectators. Tournament officials, the NSGFA and its officers, board of directors, members and sponsors are not liable for any injuries/damages suffered by anyone in attendance. 2. Tournament Format: 3 or 4 game round-robin, followed by single-knockout playoffs. The top 4, 6 or 8 seeded teams may advance to the playoffs, depending on the number of participating teams and tournament schedule. For round robin games teams earn 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. Run differential is counted up to +/7 per game and bases touched up to +/- 30 per game. Seeding at the end of the round robin is determined in order of: points scored, run differential, bases touched, head to head, coin toss. 3. No Protests: This is a competitive and friendly tournament. Protests are not allowed. Decisions of the umpire are final and not subject to appeal. Umpires may provide explanations of rulings if requested politely and respectfully. 4. Conduct: Participants or spectators who conduct themselves in an unsportsmanlike manner subject themselves and/or their team to penalty, ejection or suspension. Profanity will not be tolerated. Smoking and alcohol are not permitted in the park. Mobile phones are not permitted on the field, in the dugouts or on the players’ benches. Any player, coach or manager ejected from a game may be subject to review by the tournament director to determine eligibility for the remainder of the tournament. 5. Rosters & Pickups: Teams must present an official roster to Tournament Officials before their first game. Use of a player not on the roster may result in forfeiture of all games in which the illegal player participated. Rosters are limited to 15 players including pickups and cannot be changed once the team starts its first game. Up to 3 pickup players are permitted, provided the team’s roster does not exceed 15 players. Pickups must be from the same or lower category and classification and must wear the team’s uniform. A player may NOT play for more than one team in the tournament (includes all teams in all divisions). All-Star teams are not permitted. 6. U10, U12 & U14 only: All players on the game lineup card must play in at least 2 defensive innings. Pitchers are limited to a maximum of 4 innings (3 innings for U10) pitched per game (one pitch is considered an inning). This pitching limit is suspended in extra-innings. 7. Uniforms & Equipment: All players must wear the team uniform and no jewelry. Players and coaches must wear proper footwear. Metal cleats are not permitted. Batters must wear helmets with chin straps done up, dugout to dugout. Mouth guards and/or face masks are encouraged for defensive players. Catchers, including anyone warming up a pitcher outside the field of play before or during a game, must wear masks. Minor players must wear full protective catching gear. A batting helmet with a mask is not considered an appropriate mask. 8. Field Preparation & Warm-up: Both teams to help prepare the fields before each game. No infield practice before the game. Pitcher/catcher warm-up in foul territory is allowed. Ground balls and warm-up throwing on the grass is allowed. No fly ball or hitting practice on the grass between fields while games are going on. Hitting practice into a net and away from the field of play is permitted. Warm-up balls may be allowed between innings at the umpire’s discretion. 9. Home Team: The home team is established by a coin toss for all round robin games. The winner of the coin toss can choose to be home or away. In the playoffs, the higher seeded team chooses home or away. The home team always bats in the bottom half of each inning. 10. Time: Time starts when the plate conference ends. Official time is kept by the umpire or a timekeeper designated by the umpire. Teams must be on the field and ready to play at the scheduled game time. A team that is not ready may request and be granted a 10 minute grace period before a forfeit is called. 1|Page

11. Game Balls: The NSGFA supplies the game balls—12” softballs (11” for U10 and U12) shall be used (no softies). 12. Scorekeepers: Both teams to appoint a scorekeeper to track runs scored and bases touched during the game. The scorekeepers for both teams sign the Game Summary Sheet which the winning team is responsible for handing into the Tournament Director immediately after the game. 13. Backstop Area: Coaches, players and managers (including parents engaged in coaching or gaining information for their team) are prohibited from being behind the backstop during the game. 14. Length of Games: All games are 7 innings (5 innings for U10) unless time expires. No new inning to start after 80 minutes, except for Championship games which have a 2 hour time limit. The game is over if the home team is leading when time expires. Championship games are 7 innings (5 innings for U10) but subject to the mercy rule. 15. Mercy Rule: The game is over if one team leads by 15 or more runs after 2½, 3, 3½ or 4 innings, or by 7 or more runs after 4½, 5, 5½ or 6 innings. 16. Ties: Ties are permitted only in round robin games. For all other games, if the game is tied after 7 innings or at the end of the inning when time has expired, the game will continue with extra innings following the internal tiebreaker rule until there is a winner. Exception: See additional U10 rules for ties. 17. Conference Rule: Only one defensive conference is allowed per inning. Exception: the conference rule in not in effect for U10 and U12. 18. Warm-up Pitches: The pitcher is allowed 3 warm up pitches at the start of each inning. A new pitcher is allowed 3 warm up pitches initially. 19. Dropped 3rd Strike Rule: The dropped third strike rule is in effect. Exception: For U10 and U12 the batter is out on an uncaught/dropped third strike. 20. Infield Fly: The infield fly rule is in effect. Exception: For the U10 division, infield fly balls shall be treated the same as any other fly ball, and may be caught, dropped or called foul as appropriate. 21. Substitutions: The substitution rule is not in effect. There are unlimited substitutions of players in the field at any time that time has been requested and granted. 22. Batting Order: All players will bat in the order set out on the lineup submitted by the coach at the start of the game. An error in batting order shall not count as an out but the correct player assumes the pitch count. 23. Number of Players: Teams may start and play with a minimum of 8 players (7 players for U10), in which case the 9th batter (and 8th batter for U10) is NOT an automatic out. Fewer than 8 players (7 players for U10) is a forfeit. A player who cannot bat due to injury or disability but is able to play defense is allowed to play. A player may exit the game for any reason without penalty, unless it results in the team having fewer than 8 players (7 players for U10), in which case the game is forfeited. A player cannot re-enter the game once exited. A player cannot be added to the lineup once the game has commenced. 24. Catcher Runners: With two outs, if a team’s catcher becomes a base runner, a substitute runner (the last out) may be used (if time is called and granted) to allow the catcher to leave the field and prepare for the next inning. 25. Run Limits: 5 run maximum per ½ inning including Championship games. The run limit is suspended in the 7th and subsequent innings. Exception: For the U10 division, the run limit remains in effect for all innings. 26. Schedule Disruptions: The team manager is responsible for maintaining contact with the Tournament Director in the event of weather delay or disruption to the tournament schedule. Teams are required to resume play as required by the revised schedule. If play cannot continue, the Tournament Director will determine the method of establishing the order of finish. 27. Cleanup: The team manager is responsible for ensuring the dugout is clean at the end of the game—including removal of all clothing and equipment, proper disposal of all rubbish, etc.

2|Page

Additional Rules for U10 28. The following additional modifications apply to the U10 division only: a. Batting: For each at-bat, the opposing pitcher shall pitch until a maximum of 3 balls are called, then the batter’s coach will pitch to the batter (with the player-pitcher standing beside the coach-pitcher) until she gets a hit or is called out. Coaches are to pitch from the pitching rubber with a simulated windmill pitch. The strike count continues from the player-pitcher to coach-pitcher. There are no walks and a T may not be used for batting during the game. To encourage hitting, umpires are requested to call a large strike zone—coaches should confirm this during the pre-game plate conference. b. Stealing: Base runners may leave their base and advance (at their peril) only when a player-pitched ball has crossed the plate. Runners cannot steal on a coach-pitched ball. A runner may steal only one base per pitch regardless of how many overthrows occur. Stealing home is not permitted. Once the ball is thrown back to the pitcher, runners may no longer advance, even on an overthrow to the pitcher. On a hit ball, runners may advance as many bases as they wish (regardless of overthrows) until they are put out, or the ball goes out of play, or the ball is returned to the pitcher in the pitcher’s circle. c. Sitting Out: All players who attend a game must be listed on the score sheet, and no player may sit on the sidelines for more than 1 consecutive inning and a maximum of 2 innings in a 5 inning game. d. Defensive Positions: Outfielders must be positioned at least 20 feet behind the base line. e. Umpires: In the event no umpire is available, the home team will appoint a parent who will be responsible for clearly calling balls, strikes (including strikes when the batter does not swing), fouls and outs. The parent calling the game cannot be a coach for either team. f.

Ties: Ties are permitted only in round robin games. For all other games, if the game is tied after 5 innings or after time has expired, one additional inning is played following the international tie-breaker rule. If the game is still tied, the winner shall be the team that was leading at the end of the last complete untied innings. If the game is still tied, the winner shall be the team that had touched the most bases at the end of the last complete inning. If the game is still tied, the tie is broken by a base running relay race (see below). If the game is still tied the winner shall be decided by a coin toss.

g. Base Running Relay: The home team lines up behind home plate and visiting behind 2nd base. All players on each team must participate, except due to injury or disability existing at the end of the last inning. If both teams do not have the same number of players, the team with fewer players chooses which of its players run twice. All able players must run at least once, and no player may run more than once. The home team appoints a parent to stand in the pitching circle and yell go to start the race. Bases are run counter-clockwise in order. The next runner in line may not start until previous runner tags her. If a player fails to touch a base in the correct order, she must go back and touch that base and then continue on from there.
