2017 HOCKEY CANADA SKILLS ACADEMY The South Surrey/White Rock Hockey Canada Skills Academy, held at Semiahmoo Secondary and Earl Marriott Schools, is a student-athlete centered program aimed at developing the whole athlete. Our goal is to enhance a player's confidence and self-esteem while giving opportunities in athletics beyond the primary and secondary school system. Our role is to provide additional training for players, male or female, beginners or advanced, competitive or recreational, who wish to improve their hockey skills. Partners Hockey Canada, BC Hockey, Semiahmoo Minor Hockey Association (SMHA), Centennial Arena and South Surrey Arena Benefits  Enhancement of individual and tactical development  Balances the practice-to-game ratio that exists currently in minor hockey  Enhancement of academic achievement through establishing balance between athletics and academics within the school day  Development of skills, leadership, fitness, healthy living and personal and social responsibility through hockey and related activities Participants of the program have gone on to play in the BC Hockey League (BCHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the National Hockey League (NHL).

WHERE IS IT RUN?  

First school semester for Semiahmoo is run out of Centennial Arena Second school semester for Earl Marriott is run out of Centennial Arena until spring break, then moves to South Surrey Arena

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The fee is $675 for the semester. This includes two (2) ice times a week, which is roughly 33 ice times, depending on Pro D Days, holidays, etc.

WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED? All players must provide their own equipment including neck guard and helmet (with full face protection). The South Surrey/White Rock Hockey Canada Skills Academy will not provide gear for players. Students will be provided access to a communal locker for gear storage.

APPLICATION AND WHO CAN APPLY?  Any player regardless of skill level  Students in the catchment of South Surrey/White Rock secondary schools where the home school timetable permits If you would like to join the Hockey Canada Skills Academy, please contact your SEMI or EMS counselor as soon as possible. Space is limited and admittance is based on a first come first serve basis. Don’t forget to let your counselor know if you’re a goalie! EQUIPMENT STORAGE There is a designated dressing room for equipment drop off in the morning so when the students arrive at the rink, their equipment if there. After class, they can put it back in this room. This room will have a combination lock on it at all times. Equipment must be picked up no later than 4:30pm.
