2017 L E G I S L A T I V E A G E N D A The Roane County Chamber of Commerce respectfully advocates for the following legislative initiatives: Transportation 1. With changes in technology, efficiencies and travel patterns, Tennessee’s infrastructure needs improvements, upgrades and sustainable long term solutions to support the needs of a growing economy. Roane County has experienced over $100 million in road improvements this decade. To continue progress toward planned and controlled growth, the Chamber supports the implementation of alternative measures to keep Tennessee a “pay-as-you-go” state as it relates to transportation spending.

Local Government 1. Oppose any effort to allow de-annexation by referendum or any other vehicle for any territory within existing city limits 2. Protect the local government share of sales tax to prevent an imbalance of services between city, county and state agencies.

Rural Economic Development 1. Support the recommendations from the Governor’s Rural Task Force that focus on improving conditions for rural counties across the state, including Roane, in the areas of Capacity Building and Placemaking for Communities, Education, Wellbeing and Job Creation

2. Continued study and proposed solutions to bring greater access to high speed broadband access to all parts of our state

Education and Workforce Development 1. Support any statewide measure that ensures current high school students receive the same postsecondary funding opportunities as traditional post-secondary students from the state of Tennessee including Roane State Middle College and any dual enrollment programs with TCAT- Harriman or Roane State. 2. Promote TN Reconnect to encourage the completion of unfinished degrees and pursue new career opportunities through Tennessee’s community colleges and TCATs
