BEHOLD THE LAMB 3/17/2019

For weeks we have been looking at the key passages of the Lamb found throughout the Word of God. I. A FINAL MOMENT OF REVIEW IS NEEDED AS WE LOOK AT SOME OF THE LAMB PASSAGES

A. The Lamb is seen throughout Scripture

1. In Genesis 4 we see Abel and his lamb. 2. In Genesis 22 we see Abraham, Isaac and the lamb.

3. In Exodus 12 we see Israel and the Passover Lamb.

4. In Leviticus 16 there is the sin offering lamb for Israel. 5. In Isaiah 53 there is the suffering lamb. 6. In the Gospel of John 1:29-36 there is the identification of the Lamb

7. In Acts 8 we see Jesus is the Lamb, the Messiah. 8. In I Peter 1:18-21 we see the Lamb from eternity. 9. In Revelation 5 we see the enthronement of the Lamb.

10. In Revelation 21-22 we see the Lamb reigning in eternity

B. More progression of the Lamb is seen; 1. Abel: the necessity of the Lamb

2. Abraham: the provision of the Lamb. 3. Exodus: the slaying of the Lamb.

4. Leviticus: The character of the Lamb.

2

5. Isaiah 53: The personality of the Lamb. 6. John 1: The identifying of the Lamb. 7. Acts 8: The Christhood of the Lamb. 8. First Peter 1: The resurrection of the Lamb.

9. Revelation 5: The enthronement of the Lamb.

10. Revelation 21-22: Endless Kingship of the Lamb II. A COMPARSION BETWEEN GENESIS AND REVELATION IS SEEN.

A. As we come to the close of our lessons I believe it to be important that we compare the two books to some degree.

1. Genesis-Cursed ground-3:17--------- Rev;-No more curse—22:3 2. Genesis—Sorrow 3:17------------------- Rev;-No more sorrow—21:4 3. Genesis—Returning to dust—3:19—Rev; -No more death—21:4

4. Genesis—Satan opposing—3:15------- Rev;-Satan banished—20:10 5. Genesis—Kept from tree of life-3:24—Rev-Access to tree of life—22:14 6. Genesis Banished from garden-3:23—Rev-Free entry to city—22:14 7. Genesis—Redeemer promised—3:15-Rev;-Lamb brings redemption-5:9-10

8. Genesis-Rule of sun and moon—1:16—Rev;-No need of either—21:23 9. Genesis—Garden accessible to the Liar—3:1-5—Rev;-City closed to all liars—21:27

10. Genesis—Separated from God—3:24—Rev;-ln Presence of God—22:3

B. The comparisons between the two books are numerous. These ten are given to help us understand that Genesis records the results of sin and Revelation records the Redemption of the human race from sin.

III. THE LAMB MAKES THE DIFFERENCE A. Seven descriptive terms of The Lamb are mentioned in the last two chapters of Revelation;

1. The Lamb is the Bridegroom—"And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Co me hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb's wife." (Revelation 21:9)

2. The Lamb is identified in the foundation of the city—"And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb." (Revelation 21:14)

3. The Lamb is the temple—"And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it." (Revelation 21:22)

4. The Lamb is the Light of the city—"And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof." (Revelation 21:23) 5. The Lamb is the portal to the city—"And there shall in no wise enter into it anything that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life." (Revelation 21:27) 6. The Lamb is the life—"And he shewed me a pure river of water of life clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb." (Revelation 22:1) 7. The Lamb is the King—"And there shall be no more curse but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him." (Revelation 22:3) B. And old Puritan said years ago; "When I get yonder, I'll spend the first thousand years gazing on Jesus; then I'll have a look around"!

The Bride eyes not her raiment,

4

But her beloved's face;

I will not gaze on glories, But on my King of grace: Not on the crown He giveth,

But on His pierced hand:

The Lamb is all the glory In Emmanuel's land.

III. THE LAMB REIGNS IN ETERNITY, MAY HE REIGN IN TIME. A. The only message which saves people is the gospel of the Lamb. Rev;21:27

B. The Lamb must be at the center of our: 1. Preaching

2. Planning 3. Serving

4. Faith 5. Hope

6. Love C. Jesus is the center of the city therefore;

1. We should thrill at the prospect of getting to see Him! (Rev; 22:4)

2. We should desire His coming for us; (Rev; 22:7,12,20) 3. We should determine to stand firmly on His Word; (Revelation 22:18-19)

4. We should heed His last invitation; (Revelation 22:17) 5. We should remember what He brought us. (Grace—Revelation 22:21)
