COMMUNITY NEWS Hospital Authority opens door for med school The Hospital Authority of Valdosta-Lowndes County has approved a memorandum of understanding that will pave the way for a medical college of osteopathy in Valdosta, during a special called meeting Tuesday afternoon. The authority voted to approve the new MOU with Lowndes Affiliated Services, the company responsible for operating and managing the proposed medical school, just a few weeks after rejecting a previous draft of the agreement. Georgia still has major problem with obesity, report shows Three in 10 Georgia adults are obese, giving the state the 19th-highest rate in the nation, a recently released report says. Between 2014 and 2015, adult obesity rates decreased in four states (Minnesota, Montana, New York and Ohio), increased in two (Kansas and Kentucky) and remained stable in the rest, according to the report from the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.(Ga Trend) Hurricane hurts pecans Hermine’s winds and rain proved too intense for many South Georgia pecan trees. Pork Chop Casserole Ingredients 4 pork chops (or chicken breasts or thighs) 1 can cream of mushroom soup (cream of celery or chicken work good too) 1 packet onion soup mix 1 cup rice 2 cups water 1/2 cup frozen peas 1 cup broccoli pieces Paprika Seasoning salt Garlic powder Black pepper
Preparations Mix the mushroom soup, onion soup, water, and rice in a small bowl Pour mixture into a 9x13 glass baking dish Add your vegetables and mix to combine Place pork chops on top of rice mixture and season with paprika, seasoning salt, garlic powder, and black pepper then cover with aluminum foil Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 60 minutes, or until pork chops are cooked through Remove foil and return to the oven to bake for about 15 minutes just to brown the top a bit The perfect comfort meal. And the best part is you can use whatever you have in your freezer or fridge or find whatever is on sale to make this a frugal one pot dish. Can’t beat that :)
