Star Struck Series at a Glance for Elevate (continued) Lesson 1: Star-struck Have you ever acted like someone you’re not, just to fit in? This week, we’ll find out that Jesus’ friends weren’t perfect, and why that was ok. We’ll also discover that whatever is happening, whatever we’re feeling, we can be real with Jesus. Lesson 2: On The Road Imagine, you get the chance to meet two super star musicians. The first one gives you a signature, but then doesn’t listen to anything else you say. The second one, though, learns your name, listens to you, and asks you some questions. Who do you like better? Probably the person who has time for you. This week, we’ll see how Jesus made time for others, and how that changed one woman’s life. Lesson 3: On Break Have you ever wanted to just relax? Once, while Jesus was taking a break, someone bothered him. Instead of being annoyed, though, Jesus took the chance to show the person how much He cares about them. Find out what happened, this week! Lesson 4: Dinner You may have heard that Jesus loves you, but what does that mean? On one of the most difficult nights of His life, Jesus took some extra time to show how powerful His love is, even for his enemies. Series Title Slide: Star Struck and clear audio

This is the very last week of our series called “Star Struck.” In this series, we’ve been getting to know someone who is super famous, a guy named Jesus. We’re not looking at his life when He was in front of huge crowds or in the spotlight, though. Instead, we’re learning what Jesus was like behind the scenes, at home, chilling with friends, and on road trips. Last week, we heard how Jesus gave His life for every one of us, and how He came back to life after He had died, which is what we celebrate every Easter. This week, we’re going to ask the question, what does it mean to follow Jesus? What do I do? We’ll talk about that in a bit, but first, let’s have some fun with a game called “Finish the Phrase.” Game Title Slide: Finish the Phrase

Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 5

In this game, I’ll show you a common phrase people say. You’ll have to work together with your group to guess what that phrase means. You’ll talk about it, and your group leader will write down your guess on a piece of paper. Ready? You can find your leader by the flag with your grade on it! Do This: Make sure each leader has a piece of paper and a marker. Know This: Leaders may encourage kids to participate and talk with them, but shouldn’t give them the answer to the phrase if they know it. Allow the kids to guess! Fun game music!

Alright, let’s get started! (United States) That’s a piece of cake. A. That’s awesome. B. That’s easy to do. C. That’s tasty. D. That goes well with ice cream.

We’ll start close to home, with a phrase you might have heard before. “That’s a piece of cake.” What does that mean? Is it A. That’s awesome, B. That’s easy to do, C. That’s tasty, or D. That goes well with ice cream. Make your decision! Do This: Allow groups to talk for 10-20 seconds.

Let’s find out if you’re right! (United States) That’s a piece of cake. A. That’s awesome. B. That’s easy to do. C. That’s tasty. D. That goes well with ice cream.

The answer is “B.” That question might have been a piece of cake for you, but they get tougher from here. Let’s try another one, this time from across the pond. (England) Pull a blinder. A. Do something difficult. B. Crash into something. C. Go to sleep. D. Eat ice cream.

Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 6

This phrase is from England. If someone “pulls a blinder,” what are they doing? Is it A. Doing something difficult, B. Crashing into something, C. Going to sleep, or D. Eating ice cream? Go ahead and talk about that! Do This: Allow groups to talk for 10-20 seconds.

Let’s find out what the answer is! (England) Pull a blinder. A. Do something difficult. B. Crash into something. C. Go to sleep. D. Eat ice cream.

It means to do something difficult. Ok, let’s keep moving around the world, to Colombia! (Colombia) He/she’s on my keychain A. Brother/Sister B. Friend C. Mom/Dad D. Someone you’re eating ice cream with.

In Colombia, if you said someone was “on your keychain” would they be A. Your brother or sister, B. Your friend, C. your mom or dad, or D. Someone you’re eating ice cream with? Decide on your answer! Do This: Allow groups to talk for 10-20 seconds.

Let’s find out if you’re right! (Colombia) He/she’s on my keychain. A. Brother/Sister B. Friend C. Mom/Dad D. Someone you’re eating ice cream with.

The answer is B, someone who is on your keychain is your friend! Nice. Let’s try another one. (Australia) Cook up some “snags.” A. Mac and Cheese B. French Fries C. Sausages D. Ice Cream Sandwiches Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 7

If you were in Australia, and someone said they wanted to “cook up some snags,” what would you be eating? Is it A. Mac and Cheese, B. French Fries, C. Sausages, or D. Ice cream sandwiches? Go ahead and talk about that! Do This: Allow groups to talk for 10-20 seconds.

Let’s find out if you’re right! (Australia) Cook up some “snags.” A. Mac and Cheese B. French Fries C. Sausages D. Ice Cream Sandwiches

It means sausages! We’ve got one more phrase for you, let’s find out what it is! (Germany) I believe my pig is whistling. A. I don’t believe you. B. I think that’s amazing. C. I have to go. D. I want some ice cream.

In Germany, if someone told you “I believe my pig is whistling,” what do they mean? Is it A. I don’t believe you, B. I think that’s amazing, C. I have to go, or D. I want some ice cream? Talk about your answer with your group! Do This: Allow groups to talk for 10-20 seconds.

Let’s find out if you’re right! (Germany) I believe my pig is whistling. A. I don’t believe you. B. I think that’s amazing. C. I have to go. D. I want some ice cream.

It means “I don’t believe you.” That’s a fun one to say, but I’m pretty sure no one would know what you meant. Thanks for playing everyone! Game Title Slide: Finish the Phrase (and clear audio)

You can come back to the front. A lot of things are different around the world, but we all have some things in common, too. We feel the same things, have dreams, and every person on earth is made and loved by God. We’ll learn why that’s so important in a couple minutes, but next up is our question of the day! (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Star Struck Do This: Make sure each kid finds their group. Help group leaders if there is a need. Encourage kids as they work to answer the question. Know This: This is a time for kids to search for answers in the Bible, and see how they can use the Bible to investigate and better understand life. This time is designed for kids to interact and deepen their understanding. They won’t get all the answers, but allow them to question and discover as much as possible. Be ready to support group leaders in any way needed. Do This: Give the groups a warning about one minute before this time is up.

(Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Star Struck

God gave every one of us such an important mission.

Application

6:00

How amazing is that, you and I are part of Jesus’ story! We are all part of Jesus’ story. Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 10

That means God made you for an important reason. Jesus’ mission to tell everyone how much God loves them is a challenge for you and me, just like it was for His friends so long ago. When we tell people what Jesus did, how He died and came back to life, we’re doing that mission. When we invite people to church, we’re doing Jesus’ mission. Most of all, we want people to make the awesome decision to follow Jesus with their whole life. Series Title Slide: Star Struck

Getting someone to choose to follow Jesus isn’t always easy, though. Sometimes, we might tell someone Jesus’s story, and feel like they didn’t understand. Or, you might invite someone to church, and they say no. That can be really discouraging. The thing is, not everyone is ready to follow Jesus the first time they hear about Him. Sometimes, they hear Jesus’ story for weeks, months, or years before they realize that they need to follow Him. If you tell someone about Jesus, invite them to church, or do something nice for them, and they don’t decide to follow Jesus right then, that doesn’t mean you failed. Look at this puzzle. Do This: Show kids a puzzle.

I have to put this puzzle together one piece at a time, and every piece is just as important as all the others. If I looked at the first piece and said “I don’t know where this goes, so I won’t even try,” would I ever get the puzzle together? No. If I put together three pieces, and then said “This is too big, I can’t do this,” would I ever get the whole puzzle together? No. When a group of people work on a puzzle, some of them might put in a ton of pieces, one by one. Others might help for a little, and some might just put in one piece. The thing is, without any one of those pieces, the puzzle wouldn’t be finished. That’s what someone deciding to follow Jesus might be like. Not always, but sometimes, it takes a lot of people, telling them a little about Jesus at a time, inviting them to church over and over, and doing nice things for them. Each of those things is like another piece of the puzzle, that when it’s finished, they’ll say “I want to follow Jesus.”

Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 11

You can share Jesus’ love with someone today. Add a piece to their puzzle. Show them that God loves them. Whether it’s the first piece or the last piece in their puzzle, it could have a big impact. Most of all, though, God is the one who is changing their life. If we want someone to follow Jesus, it’s super important to pray for them, and ask God to help them, even when we can’t. We’ve got something for you that can help you share Jesus’ story in a fun way!

Do This: Show kids the “Sharing Jesus’ Story” flapper tool. Flip through it as you talk about each picture.

This tool folds back to reveal different pictures. These pictures can help you remember the story of our world. We’ll go through it quickly here. Creation Image

The first one reminds us that God made the whole world. He made us to know Him and have a relationship with Him. Fall Image

The problem is, our world has become broken. We’ve walked away from God, and from the way we were made to live. This image reminds us of how people did things God said were wrong. Jesus Images

That’s why God sent Jesus. He helped people and showed them that God loves them, but He also was put on a cross, and died. Resurrection Image

Then, Jesus came back to life! He proved He was God’s Son, and took the punishment for every wrong thing all of us have done. Worship Slide Star Struck Lesson 6 April 27/28 12

Worship

8:00

That’s something worth celebrating! You can pick up one of those Sharing Jesus’ Story tools on your way out today, but right now we get to worship God. Whenever we talk, sing, or just spend time thinking about how amazing God is, that’s called worship. I love to sing about how much God loves us, let’s stand and worship Him together! Song #1: Higher than the Sky (Auto-Advance) Worship Slide

God is amazing. Let’s keep worshipping Him with another great song about His love. Song #2: Movin Me (Auto advance) Series Title Slide: Star Struck

It’s great singing with you all. You can sit, but let’s take a moment to talk to God. God, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus. Help us to share His story with others and let them know how much you love them. Amen.
