Worth It: Lesson 3 – Nov 3/4 Group Time Guide: 1-3rd Grade

Group Time Guide Supplies Needed: Cylinder, bag of gravel, ping pong balls.

1. Getting Started Tell kids to meet someone new, and talk about this question: When did you have to wait for something you really wanted?

2. Discussion Questions • Do you think the Source team can save enough to buy such an expensive printer? • Have you ever saved money? What was it for? • What is on the top of your wish list?

3. Hands-On Option Look Up and Read: Proverbs 13:11. This is our key verse for this whole series, and it is about the power of saving money. Say This: The choices we make with our money really matter. You may have heard that it’s wise to save some of the money you make, but why is it so important? Well, these ping pong balls represent the important things we can do with our money, like saving, giving, and budgeting. This gravel represents all the little things that we can do, like buying a candy bar, paying for a ride, or buying a new game. When we don’t do the most important things first, this is what happens. Do This: Show kids the cylinder. Pour in all the gravel, and then put in the ping pong balls. The ping pong balls will not all fit. Take everything out of the cylinder. Say This: If we budget our money, and plan where it should go, we’ll set aside some for saving, some for giving, and some for spending. Then, things work out differently. Do This: Pour the ping pong balls into the cylinder, then pour the gravel in. It will fit. The Point: When we put important things like saving first, it helps us do more with what we have!

4. Wrap-Up and Prayer Ask: What was the best part of your week? What was something tough that happened this week? Do This: Pray with the kids.
