CRIES from the CROSS

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could He die, and only by dying could He break the power of the devil, who had the power of death. Hebrews 2:14 NLT “O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1Corinthians 15:55-57 ESV

Lesson Six • John 19:30

A Cry of Victory Jesus’ Sixth Cry from the Cross Is: A triumphant cry of VICTORY! So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30 NKJV Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” John 4:34 NKJV

3. Jesus Paid For Our SALVATION! “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29 ESV

Jesus Paid It All Once For All!

The SACRIFICE for sin was paid by Jesus and the PAYMENT for sin was accepted by God. “It Is Finished!” It is one word in the Greek language: “TETELASTAI”

He sacrificed for their sins once for all when He offered Himself. Hebrews 7:27 NIV Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, He sat down at the right hand of God. Hebrews 10:11-12 NIV

What Did Jesus Accomplish On the Cross?

1. Jesus Finished His SUFFERING! He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces He was despised, and we esteemed Him not. Isaiah 53:3 NIV “The Son of Man must suffer many things and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and He must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.” ~Jesus, Luke 9:22 NIV

Jesus’ Work On the Cross Is Finished! You can’t ADD anything to what Jesus has already done on the Cross. You can only ACCEPT or REJECT the finished work of Jesus.

Remembering the Finished Work of Jesus through Communion: Feel free to stand and walk toward one of the four tables throughout the auditorium to participate in Communion. You may take the bread and cup back to your seat. The bread and juice represent the broken body and shed blood of Jesus when He died on the Cross.

2. Jesus Defeated SATAN!

Followers of Jesus Christ who are in authentic fellowship with God and one another are exhorted to participate in Communion based on the “examination of their heart” in 1Corinthians 11:27-29.

The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 1John 3:8 ESV When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Colossians 2:13-15 NIV

Our Work On Earth Is Unfinished! But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God. Acts 20:24
