A Month of Missions

Well, three weeks anyway. For the first three weeks of December Pastor Bryan is preaching on the transformative nature of giving and mission. We are taking this opportunity to highlight missions that are supported by the RB Community Missions Committee. Each week we will focus on different mission partners serving in local, regional, and international communities. This week, you are able to visit with our local missions and missionaries in the gallery or the courtyard. The following missions are represented so we hope you will take a few minutes to visit their table and learn more about their efforts in our local community. Alternatives Medical Center provides a variety of limited medical services and educational programs to men and women through a Christcentered lens. They are located in Escondido but today you can visit the AMC van in our upper parking lot. Cru Bridges – San Diego is supported by “home grown” missionaries Linley Sullivan and Josh & Sarah Dean. Linley works with local high school students and the Dean’s work at local universities to bring the Word of God to those who haven’t heard or made a life commitment to Christ.

Flourish San Diego – As the church in North America continues to decline and marginalize, Flourish helps congregational leaders understand the current cultural moment and resist the tendency of a self-preservation mentality. Reality Changers transforms lives by providing youth from disadvantaged backgrounds with the academic support, financial assistance, and leadership training to become college graduates. Urban Youth Collaborative is a network of local churches that support student-led faith clubs and motivational assemblies at middle and high school campuses in San Diego County. Young Life/Capernaum introduces adolescents to Jesus Christ and helps them grow in their faith by focusing on what matters most to them: fun, adventure, friendship, and a sense of significance in which the truth about God and his Love for them is revealed. Thank you in advance for visiting our mission tables and please, pick up one of the Mission Booklets so you have a better understanding of how your mission dollars are making a difference in our local, regional, and international communities. Honor or remember a loved one at Christmas time by donating a spectacular poinsettia plant. A minimum of $10 is asked; checks payable to RBCPC. The price covers the cost of the plant ,and any surplus is given to the Deacons for their outreach programs.

You may request that the Deacons deliver your plant to the sick or homebound, or pick up your plant on Saturday, December 26 after 10 am. Orders received by noon on Monday, December 10 will have the names of the honorees printed on a banner displayed near the beautiful poinsettia tree in the gallery. Look for the poinsettia donation envelopes in the pew racks this weekend and December 8-9.

Senior Quilts: Class of 2019

Thursday, December 6 | 7:00 pm | Skylight Attention parents of graduating seniors in the Class of 2019! The quilting ministry will be holding an informational meeting to discuss making quilts for all the graduating seniors connected with RB Community Church.

A homemade quilt filled with prayers for the future is a priceless gift of comfort and assurance we can provide these amazing kids. No sewing experience necessary! We will go over the schedule, materials needed, and be there to answer any questions for anyone who has a student graduating this next spring, or who would like to sew for someone who doesn’t.

Year-End Giving

Have you been prayerfully considering a special year-end gift? Last week’s newsletter explained that we have a Christmas Challenge Goal of $50,000 for special gifts toward missions. We are also praying that our December donations exceed last year, and provide more than $350,000 toward the general ministry budget. Now is a great time to think about a special year-end gift, or using a required minimum distribution from IRAs or stock donation. If you would like further information, see the church’s webpage under the “give” tab, or contact our Business Manager, Tony Cook, at [email protected] or 858.487.0811 x212.
