#8 "Stay Connected"
John 15:1-‐8 John 15:1-‐8 (NIV) I am the true vine, and My Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in Me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in Me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in Me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not remain in Me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be My disciples.
1. ________________ ________.
î We have settled our relationship with Him. Luke 14:33 (Msg) Simply put, if you’re not willing to take what is dearest to you, whether plans or people, and kiss it good-‐bye, you can’t be My disciple.
î Our life is lived in Him. Acts 17:28 (NIV) “For in Him we live and move and have our being.” As some of your own poets have said, “We are His offspring.”
î He’s the One we’re most comfortable with. John 15:15 (NIV) I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from My Father I have made known to you.
î He’s our place of security, rest and peace. Matthew 11:28 (NIV) Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
2. Don’t ____________ ____________, and don’t ________ ____________. • Genesis 19:17
• Genesis 19:26
• Luke 17:32
• John 13:27
• 2 Timothy 4:10
• Luke 9:62
• Philippians 3:13, 14
How do we avoid “looking back” and “going back?”
î Be prepared for _______________________. Matthew 26:41 (NIV) Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.
î See the _______________________ in the “_________________.” John 8:44 (NIV) You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
î Know that _____________________ ______________ is what leads to a _______________________ _____________. Galatians 6:9 (Living) And let us not get tired of doing what is right, for after a while we will reap a harvest of blessing if don’t get discouraged and give up.
3. _______________ your ____________. John 15:5 (NIV) I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.
