Gathering Around The Word

“What we celebrate in saints is not their piety or perfection but the fact that we believe in a God who gets redemptive and holy things done in the world through, of all things, human beings, all of whom are flawed.” – Nadia Bolz Weber, Accidental Saints

We give you thanks, God, For all those who have walked this path of faith, guiding us along our way. We give you thanks, God, For all those who have loved us into being and shaped this community. We give you thanks, God, For all those who have reminded us of your grace and embodied your love We give you thanks, God, For all the saints.

*Call to Confession and Prayer of Confession

God of the saints and the sinners, in striving to be perfect, pious, and powerful, we inevitably fall short. We forget that only you are perfect. We forget that even the saints were sinners. Help us to acknowledge our sinfulness, so that we can more clearly see your perfection. Remind us that it is your grace alone that allows us- as flawed as we are- to act gracefully in the world.

*Words of Forgiveness

Leader: Friends, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel: People: We are saved by grace through faith. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Gloria Patri (Hymn 581)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Rev. Mark Brainerd

In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, whom alone we worship and serve.

T he L ord ’ s P rayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
