Gathering Around The Word

“Hope is a muscle. It’s a choice. It is a vigorous choice, to see what is wrong and what needs healing and needs repair and needs our attention and also to keep our hear ts and our imaginations and our energy oriented towards what we want to build, what we want to create, what we’re walking towards.” – Krista Tippett

Dale Wood

Like a parent running to greet the prodigal son, God always welcomes us home. No matter how far we travel, God always welcomes us home. There is no place we can go where God’s love cannot reach us. God always welcomes us home. Welcome home, children of God!

*Call to Confession and Prayer of Confession

God of boundless love, you ask us to share your love with friend and foe alike. You call us to show forth love to the unlovely- persecutors and bullies, enemies and evildoers. We struggle with this inconceivable mission, for it often seems hopeless, impractical, and unsafe. Like Ananias who laid hands on Saul, prepare us to reach out in love to our enemies. Remove the scales from our eyes and help us to see others with the love of Christ. Amen.

*Words of Forgiveness

Leader: Friends, hear and believe the good news of the Gospel: People: We are saved by grace through faith. In Jesus Christ we are forgiven. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Gloria Patri (Hymn 581)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen.

the 2009 PHPC Vision Statement

We will extend comfort and support through a program of mutual ministry involving members trained to carry the love of Christ into the lives of others. We will respond quickly and appropriately to a wide variety of needs. We will be a caring congregation where people are respected, included, loved, and valued.

T he L ord ’ s P rayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Initial assessments suggest catastrophic destruction, but the full scope of the damage will not be known for many months. PDA is deploying teams to affected presbyteries to meet with Presbyterian and community leadership to assist in coordinating relief efforts and mucking out homes and churches.
