WE LISTEN TO THE WORD OF GOD...

The Sacrament of Holy Baptism

Scripture: Mark 14: 13-21 (NRSV) So he sent two of his disciples, saying to them, “Go into the city, and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you; follow him, 14 and wherever he enters, say to the owner of the house, ‘The Teacher asks, Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?’ 15 He will show you a large room upstairs, furnished and ready. Make preparations for us there.” 16 So the disciples set out and went to the city, and found everything as he had told them; and they prepared the Passover meal. 17 When it was evening, he came with the twelve. 18 And when they had taken their places and were eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you will betray me, one who is eating with me.” 19 They began to be distressed and to say to him one after another, “Surely, not I?” 20 He said to them, “It is one of the twelve, one who is dipping bread into the bowl with me. 21 For the Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that one by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that one not to have been born.”

Each member of the Body of Christ is a valued and important part of the mission and ministries of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. We are followers of Jesus Christ who said we would be known as disciples by the way we love one another. “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 4:17) These are characteristics we strive for: To be faithful to the church in our prayers, presence, gifts, service and Christian example. To be models of the highest Christian ideals and values, through the gifts of grace, mercy, and good will. Speak the truth in love; listen with open hearts and minds. Build up the church in everything we say and do. Be responsible and accountable for our own behavior showing compassion, integrity and love. To encourage an inclusive spirit to everyone, honoring different opinions as blessings. To always honor our mutual love for Christ and the witness of our church. To make decisions based on God’s vision for the whole church. To practice and encourage one-on-one reconciliation, and forgiveness in all things. To be strong when facing adversity, holding to Christian faith and unity. It is central to our fellowship to give priority to Jesus’ commandment to “love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12). We honor His prayer for the disciples; that “they may become completely one so that the world might know that I was sent from You.” (John 17:23) Co-Senior Pastors Rev. THE ROOM IN THE INN This is a ministry that Mt. Zion participates in during the winter months in partnership with the Urban Ministry Center. The simple goal is to keep homeless people from freezing on cold winter nights. Every first and third Tuesday night from December to March we will provide housing and food for 10 people who are homeless. We do this by opening the doors of our Youth House and our hearts to a population of homeless people that continues to grow here in our own community. Each week there are a number of things that need to come together to make this ministry successful--and that is where you come in! We need volunteers! There are many ways that you can serve: cooking a warm meal, providing breakfast, packing a bag lunch, driving the church mini bus, doing laundry, staying overnight and more.
