The President The Whi te House Washington, D.C.

My dear Mr. President: In the 42 year history of the Securities and Exchange Commission there has never been a woman commissioner. As Chainnan of the Talent Bank®, composed of 25 cooperating women's organizations, I would like to suggest that during this International Women's Decade would be an appropriate time to appoint a woman to the SEC. I propose that you consider Marilyn V. Brown for the current vacancy. A consultant to the investment community on Federal legislation and' regulation, Ms. Brown would bring 16 years of professional experience with the investment industry to the Securities and Exchange Commission. A chartered financial analyst, she has lectured and written widely on the role of the investment industry in our economy. She is a member of the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts, the New York Society of Securities Analysts, the Financial Women's Association, and the Financial Analysts Federation, for which she has served as Chainnan of the Program Committee and on the Accotmting Policy Committee. - Ms. Brown is a a.nn laude graduate of Mt. Holyoke College and attended Duke University Graduate School.

I urge you to consider Marilyn V. Brown, a Democrat, for the 5 year appointment currently open. erely,
