LIGHTING OF THE FIRST ADVENT CANDLE CHILDREN’S PRAYER CHORAL CALL “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (verse)

#88

“O come, O come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel, that mourns in lonely exile here until the Son of God appear.”

CONFESSION Merciful God, we come to you knowing that we have disappointed you. We have not lived the way you want us to live. We have set limits on our love. We have put up false boundaries in our relationships. We long for you to be proud of us and we know we have fallen short of that goal. Enable us to be people after your own heart. Forgive our self-limiting actions and help us to erase the barriers between ourselves and others. Forgive us and move our hearts, that we might truly desire for ourselves and our world, the same things that you desire. Amen.

§ MUSICAL RESPONSE “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” (refrain)

The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

LORD’S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
