Welcome and Call to Worship *Hymns of Praise

Michael Bedford arr. Hal H. Hopson

New Testament Reading Elder Gerri Lewis The Story, Chapter 23, pages 326-327 Prayer of Confession (in unison, followed by silent prayer) Wondrous Worker of Wonders, I praise you, not alone for what has been, or for what is, but for what is yet to be, for you are gracious beyond all telling of it. I praise you that out of the turbulence of my life a kingdom is coming, is being shaped even now out of my slivers of loving, my bits of trusting, my springs of hoping, my tootles of laughing, my drips of crying, my smidgens of worshiping; that out of my songs and struggles, out of my griefs and triumphs, I am gathered up and saved; for you are gracious beyond all telling of it. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for the gift of life, and the ways it is enriched, enhanced and enlivened, by others! (silent prayer) Amen. —adapted from Guerrillas of Grace by Ted Loder

Pointing Ahead—February 22, 2015 Good morning, friends, Many of you know Pam and I were in Atlanta last week for our annual National Covenant Group. This group of about 30 ordained pastors, professors, mission and Presbytery leaders has been meeting now for over 30 years. It has been a great joy and deep balm as the journey of ministry for and in Christ Jesus has been precious, long and challenging. But it has been a movable feast as we’ve met somewhere in the country for 3 or 4 days, from Florida to California, Ohio to Texas to worship together, grow deeper in faith and friendship, with great conversations at meals and the celebration of our families as many of us are now well into our grandparenting! Thank you for this time away for refreshment and ministry updates. Today at our house, we’re celebrating a big birthday for Pam, as our children are with us this weekend with great rejoicing: Stewart and Amy Powell, with Blake 14, Chloe 12 and Christian 5, from Pasadena, CA; the Rev. Elliott and Shannon Powell from Lubbock, Texas (whose daughters Lila 4 and Karissa 2 could not be here); and the Rev. Drs. Jennifer and David McNutt, with Priscilla 6 and Geneva 1, from Wheaton, IL. We are so grateful for these ones who have enlivened our journey through our decades of ministry and have kept us alert to the joys and challenges of life as family, for whom we praise our Lord. As we walk with Jesus through these next weeks in The Story, rest assured of his promise ‘never to leave us nor forsake us, because in life and in death, we belong to Him.’ Yours and His,
