Call to Communion

Prayer of Confession (in unison, followed by silent prayer) Most holy and merciful Father; We acknowledge and confess before Thee; Our sinful nature prone to evil and slothful in good; And all our shortcomings and offenses. Thou alone knowest how often we have sinned; In wandering from Thy ways; In wasting Thy gifts; In forgetting Thy love. But Thou, O Lord, have mercy upon us; Who are ashamed and sorry for all wherein we have displeased Thee. Teach us to hate our errors; And O most holy and loving Father; Help us, we beseech Thee; To live in Thy light and walk in Thy ways; According to the commandments of Jesus Christ our Lord. Cost of $35 includes light breakfast, lunch, and materials. Sign-up with Pastor Karla: [email protected]. Topic: “I am the Lord your God” What might it mean for you to hear God declare to you, “I am the Lord Your God,” when you are worried? Or lonely? Or discouraged? Who is God to you? How is (or isn’t) your heart bent toward hearing, following and knowing God in your everyday life? Come explore these questions and more during a guided day of meditations and quiet.

MOM’s Christmas Drive has started. Toys for children from newborns to 12-year-olds are needed to help San Diego’s enlisted military families this Christmas. Please bring your donations to the Toy Table on the Plaza every Sunday in November or to the Toy Box in the church office until Friday, Dec. 5. If you don’t want to shop, cash and checks (made out to PLCPC) are also needed to buy gift cards and/or bicycles. This year, on December 6, PLCPC is sponsoring one of MOM’s Toy Stores. If you would like to help set-up the toy store or help the parents select toys for their children, please sign up Sundays at the Toy Table. Contact Ed Lynds at 619-223-1472, or [email protected].

We gather around the Lord’s Table this month of both Thanksgiving and our Stewardship Ingathering. Maybe it’s fitting that we come to the sweet story of Ruth today, a tender interlude that Scripture offers amidst the tensions and pressures of the Judges. I love how Wilkinson and Boa describe this moment, as we see Ruth’s love demonstrated and Ruth’s love rewarded in these four brief chapters. They write: “Ruth is a beautiful ‘interlude of love’ set in the period of the judges in Israel—an era marked by immorality, idolatry, and war. This heartwarming story of devotion and faithfulness records the life of Ruth, a Moabite widow who leaves her homeland to live with her widowed Jewish mother-in-law in Bethlehem. God honors her commitment by guiding her to the field of Boaz (a near kinsman by her former marriage) where she gleans grain and eventually finds a husband! The book closes with a brief genealogy in which Boaz’s name is prominent as the great-grandfather of King David, through whom we come by Matthew’s Genealogy to find the Lord Jesus Christ.” --Talk Through the Bible, adapted, p. 65. We do well amidst all the stresses and strains in this world even today, to be reminded that through it all, God has made provision and even now, for us to know the Master. God bless you and yours, as I would continue, Pastor John
