Pastoral Prayer followed by The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen

Prayer of Confession (in unison, followed by silent prayer) Heavenly Father, You have loved us with an everlasting love, but we have gone our own way, and rejected your will for our lives. We are sorry for our sins and turn away from them. For the sake of your Son who died for us, forgive us, cleanse us, and change us. By your Holy Spirit, enable us to live for you, and to please you in every way; through Jesus Christ our Lord. (silent prayer) Amen.

Pointing Ahead—February 15, 2015 We have finally made it to the New Testament, what a relief! As nice as it is to be out of the disobedience, disgrace, and redemption cycle of the Old Testament, it is necessary some times to seep ourselves in the muck in order to understand more fully the entrance of Christ into our world. The intertestamental period (time between the Old and New Testaments) lasted 400 years. This is often referred to as the “silent period.” Four hundred years! I get frustrated when it takes my husband more than 30 seconds to answer a question, so I can’t imagine not hearing from someone, particularly someone as important and necessary as God, for 400 years! Yet, we don’t have to wrack our brains too much to imagine what went on during that time. It was a repeat of the rest of the Old Testament, except this time it was not Assyria or Babylon or the Persians, but instead, it was the Greeks and finally the Romans. The Jewish people have a long, long history of the “same.” This understanding makes Jesus’ entrance ever more important and confusing at the same time. Since it had been the “same” for so long, expectation turned to simply waiting and in many ways hopelessness. So, when Jesus entered the scene, it is no wonder there were mixed responses. We, too, have mixed responses to Jesus in our lives, for some of the same reasons. Do we expect Jesus to show up or are we waiting without hope? Let’s explore together the entrance of Christ, Pastor Karla
