Prayer of Confession (in unison, followed by silent prayer) We lift up our hearts, O God, on this weekend of celebration in gratitude for the gift of being free. We rejoice with all those who share in the great dream of dignity for all. Forgive us for the prejudice we harbor in our hearts. Instead help us to work for a time when all people will be granted equal dignity and worth.

Come, O gracious God, keep us free from all that might hold us in bondage. Bless us, O God, and join our simple celebration that we may praise you, our Source of freedom, the One in whom we place our trust. (silent prayers) Amen.

PRESCHOOL/CHRISTIAN EDUCATION OFFICE RENOVATION Due to our expanding Preschool, renovations are now taking place in our Education buildings. The new rooms will be ready for the fall.

I hope you had fabulous 4th of July! What a wonderful holiday—a day when we have the opportunity to reflect on the men and women who stood firm in their convictions and, in many cases, offered their lives so that we—future generations—might live in freedom. Between the gathering of family and friends, good food, and fireworks, I hope you had the time to pause and think about how your life is built on the backs of choices made by those who went before us. I know I am grateful to live in that luxury today—a time when I don’t have to be stripped of my dignity, where I can worship freely, where I have the opportunity to speak my opinions without punishment. We receive these things from our Constitution— the right to be human. Our forefathers and mothers fought that we might not be under the tyranny of another nation. God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, fought so that we might not be under the tyranny of sin. He came to set us free despite the circumstances we find ourselves in. From our forefathers and mothers we have received physical relief in our temporary space, but in Christ Jesus we receive spiritual release that is eternal—an eternity that starts now. Have you truly embraced the freedom Christ bought for you? Have you allowed the Spirt of God to bring you newness of life? Or are you finding freedom only in the temporal? Today, may God release your soul to be free. Next week, don’t forget to invite a friend to join us on the library lawn for worship at 10 am followed by a barbeque on the Plaza. Perhaps this is a way you can share what Christ has done in your life with someone you care about.
