*Call to Worship Leader: Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God, a new world has broken into ours— People: a world in which justice does come for the poor, freedom comes for the prisoners, and healing for the sick. Leader: Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God, a new community has been formed— People: a community that loves and cares for all members, a family that welcomes all who are abandoned and rejected, a place where all find a place of belonging. Leader: Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God, a new creation has begun— People: all that was distorted is being restored, all that is corrupted is being renewed, all that was broken is being made whole. All: Because Jesus ascended and sits at the right hand of God, God’s new world has begun. *Opening Hymns

Prayer of Confession (In unison, followed by silent prayer) Holy God, At the beginning of the new year, we are grateful for the ways You have worked in our lives in the past, and we anticipate that same work in the future. Forgive us when we do not trust You, when we turn our backs on You, when we live under the illusion of control. Help us to believe in You and recognize positive change as Your spirit at work within us. We give these upcoming days and months to You. Grant us the ability to receive whatever You have in store for us and to do so with a grateful heart. In Christ’s name we pray. (silent prayer) Amen. Affirmation of Grace

Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s Prayer (sung) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen. *Benediction Postlude:
