Fix in our hearts the image of Your Son in glory, so that, sustained on the path of discipleship, we may pass over with Him to newness of life. And as we receive His gifts at Your Table, let the words of our mouths and meditations of our hearts, be acceptable to You. POINT LOMA COMMUNITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 2128 CHATSWORTH BLVD. SAN DIEGO, CA 92107 619.223.1633 POINTLOMACHURCH.ORG AT PLCPC WE SEEK TO EXPERIENCE JESUS, STRENGTHEN CHRIST’S CHURCH, JOURNEY INTO DEEPER FAITH, AND TRANSFORM OUR WORLD.

Pointing Ahead—March 1, 2015 Welcome to worship, friends. Pam and I have just spent a grand time with all of our grown children and 5 of our 7 grandchildren, so grateful for our Lord’s gracious gifts in precious family. Oh how our own personal faith has been key in raising our kids over the decades, keeping us keeping on, getting over the rough times, passing through deep waters, finding God’s grace to help in times of need, as Hebrews 4:14-16 describes: “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sinning. Let us then with confidence, draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” So in a few visits, I am about that new adventure of coming to know and love my youngest grandchild, Geneva Evangeline Powell McNutt, who was born the day after my birthday one year ago, February 10, 2014. Somehow, during this past weekend, she and I have connected in a way that absolutely delights me. She seems to gravitate to this old fellow and spoke this week out of a very sparse vocabulary, “Gmpah!” several times! Several!!! I’m dizzy with delight. And (as God is my witness) just as I was starting to write these words for you, I got a text, looked at my phone, and my daughter, Jennifer, who flew home to Chicago with the family this morning, wrote, “So as we were flying away, Geneva said, Bye, bye, Gmpah” in her cute way. It was amazing!” Somehow, I think the Lord has given me a little window on how He feels...when we reach out to him, trying in our stammering way to say, “Abba, Papa, Daddy, Father,” or “Our Father,” or “Oh God,” or “Lord, please,” or “Lord Jesus, help me,” or anything that we can manage to direct to Him. I think I can just touch on the deep communion of souls, as we gather at His Table...and He says, “Come, stay, let’s commune awhile,”...for He whispers how His heart swells with love for you...and you...and you over there...and ALL of you! Yours and His, Pastor John
