Acts 4.1-22, Peter and John Before the Council .1-4 The Arrest The Jewish leaders are annoyed. Peter and John are arrested. The Lord adds 5000 new believers to the roster. .5-12 The Inquest The leadership repeat the earlier question: Who did this? Peter and John repeat the answer: Jesus did this. 1. #2 What does no one else mean? .13-17 The Deliberations The leadership’s dilemma: They can’t deny the healing of the lame man. They can’t let the teaching about Jesus continue. The leadership’s solution: They will warn Peter and John to stop it. .18-20 The Decisions The leadership: Listen to us; we’ve decided you can’t talk about Jesus anymore. Peter and John: We have to listen to God; we’ve decided we can’t not talk about Jesus. #3 God wants me to talk about Jesus. You don’t want me to talk about Jesus. What should I do? .21-22 The Release The leadership would like to punish Peter and John, but are compelled to release them. Because the people are praising God for the miracle . And because it’s a really big miracle.
