Admit, by Way of Confession Alpha Bravo Charlie, Part 1

Message by Pastor Tom Mercer November 7-8, 2015

A—Admit that you are a sinner who needs a Savior.

Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23

1. Why is it so difficult for us to admit failure? 2. What do Psalm 32:1-6 and 51:1-12 teach you about sin and confession?

confession homologeo “to agree with”

• We admit God is right about our being failures. Romans 5:19

• We admit God is justified in His wrath. Romans 2:5

• We admit God is clear about His judgment. Romans 2:6-8

3. Admitting our sins to God or others can be difficult, but what happens when we do? Read 1 John 1:9, Nehemiah 9:3, James 5:16, Joshua 24:15, Job 34:4,33 and Psalm 25:12.

How did Jesus explain Hell? Gehenna The Valley of Hinnom

What’s it like there? • Unwelcome Matthew 22:13, 2 Peter 2:4 • No purpose Matthew 13:40-42 • Painful

4. Has your view of Hell been trivialized over the years? How and why?

In common communication, the symbol typically falls short of the reality.

5. Pastor Tom stated that, since the fall of man in Genesis 3:6, we don’t have to do anything to go to Hell because we’re already destined for it. According to John 3:16-18, how did God intervene?

What does someone have to do to go to Hell? • Nothing John 3:18

6. Matthew 13:41-42 describes Hell as a place of “weeping and gnashing of teeth.” Even though we may not completely understand what that means, should that awareness affect our pursuit of God?

How can someone avoid Hell? John 3:16

7. How should the reality of Hell change how you interact with your oikos?

What am I supposed to do about Hell? 1. Avoid it. 2. Help others avoid it. 3. Stop trivializing it.
