Hycel, Inc., will provide clinical laboratory test equipment to General Motors Corp. in a new health evaluation program. The program combines computer processing with medical lab analysis to furnish information on some 40 basic tests related to physical health and pertinent to physical examination requirements of various employers and requirements relating to the Federal Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. Physical Electronics Industries, Inc., (PEI) of Eden Prairie, Minn., maker of advanced analytical instruments, has formed a European subsidiary, Physical Electronics Industries GmbH, located in Munich, West Germany. The subsidiary will sell and service the company's line of equipment throughout eastern and western Europe and will also provide contract analytical services with instruments made by PEI in the U.S.

LKB-Produkter in Stockholm has acquired AutoChem Instrument. Both companies make instruments for automatic analysis in the clinical laboratory. AutoChem's main product is the AutoChemist blood analyzer for large-scale analysis of blood samples for health control purposes. It is in operation in central labs connected with hospitals in Sweden, Denmark, England, France, Italy, Japan, and the U.S. The National Research Council (NRC) announces the Research Associate Programs for 1976. Opportunities for postdoctoral research exist for problems in many fields of atmospheric and earth sciences, chemistry, engineering, environmental sciences, life sciences, mathematics, physics, and space sciences. NRC administers these programs in behalf of and in cooperation with selected Federal research organizations which have laboratories at about 80 geographical locations in the U.S. Appointments are awarded on a competitive basis with competition open to recent recipients of the doctorate and in some cases to senior investigators. Stipends range from $15,000 upward; grants provide for family relocation and for professional travel during tenure. Applications are

Bio-Rad Laboratories of Richmond, Calif., maker of clinical diagnostic tests and materials for biomedical and biochemical research, has acquired Environmental Chemical Specialties (ECS) of Anaheim, Calif., a producer of human control serum. ECS is currently marketing these products on a regional basis. The new acquisition will permit worldwide marketing. Scientific Resources, Inc., 3300 Commercial, Northbrook, 111. 60062, 312-498-2920, now has available a computer printout list of used scientific and medical instruments. An updated listing will be mailed periodically to interested persons. Pace Assoc, 1750 Costner Circle, Warrington, Pa. 18976, 215-343-1781, has been appointed a representative of Analytical Instrument Development, Inc., (AID) of Avondale, Pa., in middle Eastern regions in the U.S. AID makes various analytical instruments including gas chromatographs, hydrocarbon and ozone analyzers, and calibrations systems.
