God Created the World Bible Story: God Created the World • Genesis 1 Bottom Line: God created everything, and everything He created was good. Memory Verse: “16…all things have been created through him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” Colossians 1:16-17, NIV Christ Connection: The Bible says in John 1 that the Word was with God in the beginning, and the Word was God. All things were created through Him. “The Word” is God the Son. When God spoke things into existence, the Son was there. Jesus is Lord over all creation. He is God the Son, and God the Son has always existed. The Bible says everything was created by Him and for Him, and He holds everything together. 10 Minutes SOCIAL: SETTING THE TONE OF THE EXPERIENCE Have You Ever? What You Need: “Have You Ever? 10 Minutes Worship: CELEBRATING WHAT GOD IS DOING SONGS, OFFERING AND PRAYER

15 Minutes LARGE GROUP: COMMUNICATING GOD’S TRUTH IN ENGAGING WAYS Today’s Passage 1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Genesis 1:1-2 Context This Bible story tells us how everything was created. More importantly, it tells us some big things about God. When God created everything, He made everything out of nothing. Isn’t that incredible? God didn’t start with some materials and add glue or form something that already existed into something new. He spoke, and it happened. In this story, we see God’s authority—His power to give orders, make decisions, and control things. As Creator and King, God has authority over everything. Now, everything that God made had something in common. God created everything, and everything He created was good. Everything God created was exactly how God intended it to be. Everything God made brought Him glory. Today’s Takeaways • Before anything was created, God existed. • God created everything that we see – the sky, stars, land, animals, birds…and more. • All of creation has something in common – God made it and it was good. • BL: God created everything, and everything He created was good. • God made everything, and He is in charge of everything. As we see and think about creation, we can remember that God rules over it all. Let’s sing our theme song to worship God together. Give kids a chance to believe in Jesus for the first time. Remind them that God loves them so much that He sent Jesus to earth to pay for their sins. Lead them to pray as you pray. Pray that believers will submit their lives to the Holy Spirit, follow Jesus, and tell others about Him.

What does Genesis 1 say existed before God created the world and us? How did God create the world? Can you speak and create things? Since God did, what does that tell us about Him?

Activity: Creation wheel What You Need: “Days of Creation Cube” Activity Page, scissors, tape or glue sticks What You Do: Provide a cube printable, scissors, and glue stick for each kid. • Demonstrate how to cut apart and assemble the cube, folding along solid lines and gluing together tabs. • Review each picture. • Prompt kids to identify what God made on each day of creation. (Day 1: light; Day 2: sky; Day 3: earth and seas, plants and • trees; Day 4: sun, moon, and stars; Day 5: fish and birds; Day 6: livestock, creatures that crawl, and wildlife) Note: In session 2, kids will hear how God created people on day 6. Instruct kids to form pairs or groups of three. Explain how they can use their cubes to play a game: Kids should roll their cubes • at the same time. If cubes land with the same picture facing upright, the first player to shout, “It was good!” earns a point. Play as time allows. What You Say ”God created everything, and everything He created was good. The Bible tells us that Jesus is Lord over all of creation. The Son has always existed. Everything was created by Him and for Him, and He holds everything together. All of creation exists to bring God glory. Who is God? God is our Creator and King. The Bible tells us about God’s plan to rescue sinners through His Son. “

Our key passage reminds us that Jesus is the Lord of creation. He holds all things together by His power. God created people in His own image, and He loves us. We exist to glorify God. Through Jesus, we can know and love God, which gives Him glory.”

Pray and Dismiss: What You Need: No supplies needed What You Say: “Lord, You are our Creator and our King. We praise You because You are good and glorious. Thank You for creating the world and creating us to live in it and love You. Help us to know You more and live for You. Amen”
