Sixth Sunday After Pentecost Sunday ~ June 26, 2016 ~ 10:00 a.m.

Welcome

2. ___________________________________ “Cheap grace is the mortal enemy of our church. Our church struggle today is for costly grace. Cheap grace is grace . . . without costs. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without the living incarnate Jesus Christ. . . . Costly grace is the gospel which must be sought again and again, the gift which has to be asked for, the door at which one has to knock. It is costly, because it calls to discipleship; it is grace, because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs people their lives; it is grace because it thereby makes them live.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Confession of Sin Clothed with the mantle of baptism and protected by God’s promise of forgiveness, let us confess our sins to God and to one another. Merciful God, we confess that we desire what is not your will. We fear failure and cling to unquestioned habits. We are truly sorry and repent of what we have done and what we have not done. Show us the path of your prophetic way. Open our eyes to new ventures. Help us love our neighbors as ourselves. Forgive us and renew us, in the name of life abundant, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Called by Christ to joyfully serve and expand the Kingdom of God

125 Year Historical Tidbit THE DOORKEEPER A welcome sight that greets First Church visitors each Sunday morning is the person of Elder Jim Hunt, standing at the front door, ready to open the door and at the same time to extend a friendly hand of greeting. Not only is Elder Jim rendering a useful service with his greeting, but he is also helping to avoid the sometimes difficult task of having to ascend the steps and pull open the heavy door at the same time. One cannot help but think of the verse from Psalms, “I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” Presbytidings – March 1952

Vacation Bible School There will be a meeting following worship TODAY in the Neighbors in Need office for anyone who would be interested in helping with the church's VBS. We have need of: Prayers, snack makers, craft people, greeters/ guides, discussion group leaders, games, people to help set up the downstairs before the VBS starts, and more!

Welcome to FPC Kalispell! We are glad you are here today! Today’s theme: Nothing advocates for our faith more than the lives that model it. Making Disciples My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit... What happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely... Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. Galatians 5:16, 22, 23, 25 (The Message)

Our Vision Statement FPC Kalispell is a family that seeks God’s will in its ministry. Inside these walls, people of all ages experience God-inspired worship, grow in faith and receive spiritual support through studying and teaching God’s Word. We continually strive to build a loving and welcoming community as we express God’s love in all we do. We provide and encourage participation in Christian education classes, small groups, and various other opportunities for growth and fellowship. Outside these walls, we are called by God to serve our neighbors and share Christ’s love with the unchurched and under-served where they are. This is accomplished through relational development with schools, residential facilities, and with all people who desire to fellowship with us. We believe that serving our community increases active church participation by providing ways to follow Christ’s command to make this House of God a magnet for community transformation. In this way we will serve the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40) while sustaining the church for years to come.
