ANNOUNCEMENTS June 16, 2019 “GESUNDHEIT AND GOD BLESS YOU!” If you or your children use a tissue, kindly put it in your pocket or in the receptacle in the narthex on your way out of church. Please do not leave them in the pews. We have been finding a number of used tissues in the pews and would appreciate your courtesy. Thank you! HEAR YE! HEAR YE! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Do you have some good news you would like to share? Please get that news to our church office by Wednesday of each week and we will find the best way to disseminate it. We kindly ask that you refrain from posting on the bulletin board in the narthex on your own as they are arranged with care and purpose. Thank you! CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SUMMER INFO: The Contemporary Worship for the summer with be on the first and third Sunday of the month, however for June it is on the third and fourth Sunday with the Healing Service on the first, second, and fifth. For those of you who attend the contemporary service, and the reception afterwards, we have a request. We have no budget for the reception, and members of Worship and Music have been supplying the wine and snacks. We have thought of cutting the reception, but it is a great time to visit with each other… would you help please help us and sign up to bring an appetizer or bottle of wine? Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex for June 16, 23, or July 7. Any donations will be greatly appreciated! PREACHER’S PUB IS THIS THURSDAY! It’s a third Thursday! There’s no holiday this month. And there is certainly no snow in the forecast…so it looks like all’s clear for us to gather at 8:00 p.m. at the Inn Between on June 20 th to have some tapas & drinks and to engage in meaningful conversation. Join us for this long overdue meeting! YOU ARE INVITED TO A SPECIAL MEETING OF KOINONIA NEXT SUNDAY at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 95 Eastchester Road in New Rochelle next Sunday, June 23rd at 3:00 p.m. (coffee & fellowship at 2:30 p.m.). This meeting will include financial and physical property updates, security overview, mission and future vision of Koinonia’s restoration and short-term action items such as interim staffing, forest management, and renovation plans. Volunteer to be a Sunday school teacher. Looking for Sunday school teachers for 2019-2020 school year. Please consider donating one hour a week to teach the love of God to our children. We will be baking bread on Tuesday, July 9th, at 7:00 p.m. If you’d like to toss some flour around in the kitchen with us, please do! All are welcome! PEACEFEST—SAVE THE DATE—AUGUST 28TH, 6:00 p.m., PLAINVIEW PARK: The POB Interfaith Council will be hosting a gathering of unity prayer service/barbecue. Details will be forthcoming. Save the date! Huntington Hills (400 South Service Road In Melville): (second Sunday at 2:00 p.m.) July 14th & August 11th 5. Prayer Group with Holy Communion (Good Shepherd) followed by the Shepherd’s Table (Shepherd Hill): Will resume in the fall with Good Shepherd’s turn to bring desserts.

We sure do appreciate your service! We are always in need of usher teams. If you can serve as an usher once every 6-8 weeks, please speak to Jim Mason or Marge Wenger. BE A PART OF OUR FAITH COMMUNITY GARDEN! It’s that time again to maximize the use of our fertile ground known as the “Good Shepherd Faith Community Garden” located on the south side of the Parsonage. This garden will be prepared for planting, and we encourage interested members to sign up for an assigned plot for your own use during the growing season. . If you planted last year, it is your responsibility to uproot your plants and ready your area for this season. The entire garden is irrigated, and we suggest using mulch to keep the weeds down. Of course maintenance is required. If you are interested, please see the sign -up sheet in the narthex. OUR SOCIAL MINISTRY TEAM IS COLLECTING BABY ITEMS AND SCHOOL SUPPLIES DURING THE MONTH OF JULY. Please see the list below for donation suggestions. Also, we delivered 61 lbs. of food, clothing, puzzles, toys, children's clothing & a bassinet to the New Life Center on May 20th. Thank you for your ongoing response to our calls. Please remember…the need for food does not end over the summer! OUR SOCIAL MINISTRY TEAM COLLECTS two specific items for the Community Food Bank sponsored by the Mid Island Y right here in Plainview: Hunt’s Pasta Sauce and canned fruit with no sugar added. This is separate from our regular, ongoing food donations. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS OF WEEKLY COUPONS to our Plainview Community Food Bank sponsored by the MIYJCC. They are very helpful and very much appreciated. Please be sure to drop any you won’t be using into the box in the narthex. MINUTES of our April Council Meeting are now available in the narthex. MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!  Christian will be leaving us to go to John’s Hopkins University and Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. We will be celebrating him on July 28. We will be celebrating his time with us on August 18. Eric is entering his third year of seminary and will be doing his vicarage at Hope Lutheran Church in Selden, NY. His address is 167 Homer Ave., Deer Park, 11729.  Teresa Ratkowski officially steps down as Director of Music at the end of August. While she continues as Director of the School through the first semester, we want to acknowledge the tremendous contribution she has made to our music program as organist and choir director. We will celebrate Teresa on Rally Day, September 8.

SONIDO CLASICO—OUTDOOR LATIN BIG BAND CONCERT AT ST. STEPHEN’S! On Sunday, July 14, at 4:00 p.m. St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church (270 South Broadway, Hicksville) will host a concert featuring Sonido Clasico, playing the music of the Latin big band era of the ‘50, ‘60s, and ‘70s. The Arthur Murray Dance Center of Plainview will be on hand to give a salsa dancing demo/lesson. Suggested donation $15; kids under 18 free; groups of 20 or more are $10/per person.
