ANNOUNCEMENTS June 23, 2019 YOU ARE INVITED TO A SPECIAL KOINONIA MEETING THIS AFTERNOON at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 95 Eastchester Road in New Rochelle at 3:00 p.m. (coffee & fellowship at 2:30 p.m.). This meeting will include financial and physical property updates, security overview, mission and future vision of Koinonia’s restoration and short-term action items such as interim staffing, forest management, and renovation plans. All are welcome to attend. “GESUNDHEIT AND GOD BLESS YOU!” If you or your children use a tissue, kindly put it in your pocket or in the receptacle in the narthex on your way out of church. Please do not leave them in the pews. We have been finding a number of used tissues in the pews and would appreciate your courtesy. Thank you! HEAR YE! HEAR YE! READ ALL ABOUT IT! Do you have some good news you would like to share? Please get that news to our church office by Wednesday of each week and we will find the best way to disseminate it. We kindly ask that you refrain from posting on the bulletin board in the narthex on your own as they are arranged with care and purpose. Thank you! BEREAVEMENT AND SUPPORT GROUPS WILL NOT FORMALLY MEET DURING JULY AND AUGUST. But we are still here for you. Please don’t hesitate to call the church office at 516-349-1966 for an appointment. CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SUMMER INFO: The Contemporary Worship for the summer with be on the first and third Sunday of the month, however for June it is on the third and fourth Sunday with the Healing Service on the first, second, and fifth. For those of you who attend the contemporary service, and the reception afterwards, we have a request. We have no budget for the reception, and members of Worship and Music have been supplying the wine and snacks. We have thought of cutting the reception, but it is a great time to visit with each other… would you help please help us and sign up to bring an appetizer or bottle of wine? Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex for June 23, or July 7. Any donations will be greatly appreciated! OUR SUMMER CONCERTS ARE SCHEDULED! YOU WON’T WANT TO MISS OUR BARBECUES & MUSIC! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors for some good food at 6:30 p.m. followed by entertainment at 7:30 p.m. right here at Good Shepherd. We welcome back Karlus Trapp on Thursday, July 11; Danny Keane on Wednesday, July 17; Cheap Whiskey on Thursday, August 1, and The Park Brothers on Thursday, August 15. And don’t forget the Peacefest on August 28th! PEACEFEST—SAVE THE DATE—AUGUST 28TH, TIME--6:00 p.m., AND PLACE—PLAINVIEW PARK: The POB Interfaith Council will be hosting a gathering of unity prayer service/barbecue. Details will be forthcoming. OUR NEXT WOMEN WALKING TOGETHER MEETING is this Tuesday, June 25th, at 1:00 p.m. in the west cottage. All women are invited. Please bring your girlfriends for meaningful conversations about women’s issues. WE’RE MOVING THE DAY, TAKING OUR BIBLES, AND HEADING TO THE SHORE! Bible by the Bay or Beach starts on Tuesday, July 2. We’ll meet here at the church at 10:00 a.m. and head on over to TOBAY Beach with Bibles in hand for an oceanfront session at 10:30 a.m. All are welcome to come! IT’S TIME AGAIN TO BAKE BREAD! We will be baking bread on Tuesday, July 9th, at 7:00 p.m. If you’d like to toss some flour around in the kitchen with us, please do! All are welcome! CHURCH COUNCIL NEWS: Our new church council will be installed during worship over the first two Sundays in July. The following people have been elected by our congregation to positions of leadership for the 2019-20 fiscal year: Ellen Benson, Kyle Bristol, Glen Cacchioli, Lori DeFilippis, Mary Lynn Eisele, Pat Fiedler, George Hirn, AJ Jin (Treasurer), Patty Larson (President), Phil Lorch (Vice President), and Marge Wenger (Secretary). We give thanks for their willingness to serve and rejoice that these sisters and brothers will lead us in our common life and our mutual mission as a congregation. Please keep them in your prayers. We thank outgoing council members Kevin Ocker and Alice Vorstadt for their service and dedication to our church. PLEASE SAVE THESE DATES TO CELEBRATE!! 





Christian will be leaving us to go to John’s Hopkins University’ Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland. We will be celebrating him on July 28 with a breakfast following our 10:15 a.m. worship and need volunteers to bring baked goods, bagels, or fruit. Please use the sign-up sheet in the narthex. If you wish to send cards, his address is: Christian Chang Cuesta, 1631 Powers Ave., East Meadow, 11554. Eric Faret will be completing his seminary field work in August. We will be celebrating his time with us on August 18. Eric is entering his third year of seminary and will be doing his vicarage at Hope Lutheran Church in Selden, NY. His address is 167 Homer Ave., Deer Park, 11729. Teresa Ratkowski officially steps down as Director of Music at the end of August. Although she will continue as Director of the School through the first semester, we want to acknowledge the tremendous contribution she has made to our music program as organist and choir director. We will celebrate Teresa on Rally Day, September 8.

Prayer Group with Holy Communion (Good Shepherd) followed by the Shepherd’s Table (Shepherd Hill): Will resume in the fall with Good Shepherd’s turn to bring desserts. WELCA’S 25TH ANNUAL SUMMER PICNIC is on Wednesday, July 17th, at 10 a.m. at Cedar Creek Park in Seaford, (south side of Merrick Road between Wantagh Parkway and 135), Grove Picnic Area (parking field 5). Please bring your own beverage, a food item to share, and a chair. Paper goods will be provided. After morning fellowship, there will be a Bible study on the book of Esther followed by lunch. BE A PART OF OUR FAITH COMMUNITY GARDEN! It’s that time again to maximize the use of our fertile ground known as the “Good Shepherd Faith Community Garden” located on the south side of the Parsonage. This garden will be prepared for planting, and we encourage interested members to sign up for an assigned plot for your own use during the growing season. . If you planted last year, it is your responsibility to uproot your plants and ready your area for this season. The entire garden is irrigated, and we suggest using mulch to keep the weeds down. Of course maintenance is required. If you are interested, please see the sign -up sheet in the narthex.
