ANNOUNCEMENTS March 10, 2019 Please be sure to pick up your copy of our 2019 Lenten Devotional, PSALMS FOR LENT, at all worship services today. COME WALK THE SHEPHERD’S WALK--Wednesday of Holy Week, April 17, at 10:00 a.m. beginning by the Jones’ Beach Theatre and ending at Good Shepherd. The "Shepherd's Walk" is a guided prayer walk through the Journey to the Cross. This 18+ mile walk will feature the 14 Stations of the Cross. The day’s purpose is to give you space to reflect on the events of Jesus’ crucifixion in unique and meaningful way. Walk for yourself, a cause. Walk for peace, walk for someone you love, perhaps someone departed. As we walk each station we hear and come in touch with the events of the journey our Lord took to his crucifixion. Our soup and bread supper and service of Healing & Anointing follow at 6:15 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. We also need volunteers and will be announcing a volunteer meeting shortly. PLEASE JOIN OR SUPPORT TEAM GOOD SHEPHERD HONORING ONE OF OUR OWN, DEREK ZACCHINO, AS WE AGAIN STAND UP TO CHILDHOOD CANCER TOMORROW!!! The St. Baldrick’s Foundation is holding its annual head-shaving event right here in Plainview at Mattlin Middle School’s gym tomorrow, March 11th, from 3:30 p.m. 6:30 p.m., and we are once again “fielding” a team. This year’s team is in honor of one of our congregants, 16year-old Derek Zacchino, who recently underwent surgery and is being treated for brain cancer. Last year our team of only six participants raised $7,058! Please help us surpass that amount by making a donation at https://www.stbaldricks.org/participants/mypage/1005382/2019. If you prefer not to donate on line, please pick up a donation form in the narthex. Please consider asking your employer if they have a donation matching program and be sure to include that on the form. Everyone is invited to stop by Mattlin Middle School tomorrow for food, raffles, hair extensions & lots of fun! Maybe you’ll win some great prizes! AND SPEAKING OF WINNING… Enter your donation to St. Baldrick’s through this link: https://www.stbaldricks.org/fundraisers/mypage/3571/2019 for a chance to win two tickets to Hamilton Musical on May 1st at 8:00pm! Each $10 donation will give you one chance at winning. You may enter as often as you like. Please be sure to include both your preferred phone number and email address at the time you make your donation to ensure that St. Baldrick’s is able to contact you if you win. Your donation will go towards life-saving childhood cancer research grants. We can't do this without you! OUR WOMEN’S BIBLE STUDY/BOOK DISCUSSION WILL NOT BE MEETING THIS WEDNESDAY. PLEASE JOIN US ON WEDNESDAY EVENINGS FOR SOUP & BREAD & PRAYER Our Lenten soup & bread suppers take place in the gym each Wednesday evening Lent: March 13th, 20th, 27th, April 3rd, 10th & 17th at 6:15 p.m. We thank Lori & Jim Mason for hosting this each year. OUR HOLDEN EVENING PRAYER service immediately follows at 7:30 p.m. in the church. Feed your soul and your body with good things—don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to grow in faith and fellowship. Soup makers and bread bringers are always needed for this event. There’s a sign-up sheet awaiting your name in the narthex! JOIN US ON WEDNESDAY FOR ADULT CO-ED VOLLEY BALL NIGHT! Adults 18+ are welcome to join us for an evening of volleyball on Tuesday, March 26th at 7:30 p.m. Ask your friends and come on down. If there is enough interest, we will join the Long Island Beach Volleyball League at Cedar Beach for the summer. Any questions contact Glen Cacchioli at [email protected] or 516-526-6778. TAIZE IS NEXT SUNDAY at 6:00 p.m. Start the week a peaceful mindset. Reflect, meditate, unwind, and refresh at our Lenten Taize service next Sunday, 3/17 at 6:00 p.m. There won’t be one in April, so you’ll want to be there next week. You’ll be glad you came.

OUR SOCIAL MINISTRY TEAM DELIVERED 96 lbs. of food on Tuesday, 2/19, as well as baby items, a humidifier, clothing, and a lot of winter coats from both church and school to the New Life Center. Thank you for your ongoing response to our calls. BABY, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE!!! It might be just an old coat to you but think of how much your gently used coat might mean to someone else. It kept you warm, and now it will keep your neighbor in need warm, too! The New Life Center has a need for that coat you no longer wear. Please bring it to the narthex, and we will get it to them. We also need new hats, gloves, mittens, and socks. As always, thank you for your support. OUR SOCIAL MINISTRY TEAM COLLECTS two specific items for the Community Food Bank sponsored by the Mid Island Y right here in Plainview: Hunt’s Pasta Sauce and canned fruit with no sugar added. This is separate from our regular, ongoing food donations. THANK YOU FOR YOUR DONATIONS OF WEEKLY COUPONS to our Plainview Community Food Bank sponsored by the MIYJCC. They are very helpful and very much appreciated. Please be sure to drop any you won’t be using into the box in the narthex. MINUTES of our January Council Meeting are available in the narthex.
