ANNOUNCEMENTS Sunday, October 30, 2016

Today Stewardship Pledge Packet Distribution, following both services, at the piano in the Parish Hall. If you are not able to pick yours up, the church will mail it to you. We also will post the pledge card on the church website (click on the link located on the hom epage scrolling banner) in case you need to download a copy to print and bring in. The following Sunday, Nov. 6, is Ingathering Sunday. At both services, you will have an opportunity to walk forward and place your pledge card on the altar as both a visible symbol of and deliberate act of walking in love. We invite you to join us in doing so, then we will have a celebratory coffee hour after the 10:30. Walk in love with us! ~Tim Byrne, Bob Clarke, Parks Gilbert, Stewardship Tri Chairs Nursery Care. Infants and children up to age five are welcome in the church nursery. The nursery is open from 7:45 am - 12:15 pm and is staffed by warm, caring adults who look after our children. Crayons and paper are also available in the Buddy Baskets at the back of the parish hall. Adult Forum Series "Race and Reconciliation: Continuing the Conversation"- Parish Hall, 9:30 a.m. We will discuss another term explored in the Seattle Times Project, Under Our Skin. A link to the website is available on this week’s Dragon Bytes. Sunday School and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, preschool through 12th grade, 9:30-10:15 AM, Upstairs. Coffee Hour following the 10:30 service in the Rhodes Room. Autumn Catechesis Roundtable: Integrating Children into the Life of the Congregation 1:30-3:30pm. The Center for Children and Theology is hosting its autumn roundtable at St George’s on Sunday afternoon. We'll have time to explore the atrium, visit, and learn from one another. Bring along your best ideas to share. The discussion leaders are from St George’s Fredericksburg, VA. We have trained with their catechists and have been really impressed with their children and youth program and focus on their congregation’s youngest members. Suggested donations is $5-$10. Thank you!

Guidelines for Submitting Announcements & Dragon Bytes 

Due to deadlines, announcements must be submitted to the Parish Office no later than Noon on Wednesdays. Any submissions after this time will be published the following week.



Announcements must include a title/name of event, date, time, and location (see example below).



Announcements can be no longer than 8 lines. The Parish Administrator, Staff, and Clergy will edit announcements at their discretion.

RENOVATION Update on the Renovation The work continues on the Nave! Stephen and the Incarnation Church , 1525 Newton Street, NW, Washington, DC. Want to have a fun night out for a very worthy cause? The answer is: attend the Samaritans’ Annual Fall Gala! There will be a silent and live auction with lots of interesting items, plentiful hors d’ouevres with libations, and an outstanding participant and volunteer will be honored.

This event, now in its 30th year, is a major fund raiser for the Samaritans in support of its Next Step program, which provides training and counseling assisting individuals such as some of the clients of our Food Pantry Planned Giving and HOST in getting back in the work force. As you are aware, Saint Georges has been an active partner with the Internet Safety Training for Parents and Going Samaritans since their founding. St. George’s Men’s Group will meet on Saturday, November 5th at 8:00 AM in Rhodes Room of the church. A light breakfast of bagels, donuts, muffins and Starbuck's coffee will be served starting at 8:00 AM. Sometime after 8:30, we will begin a discussion time with our topic for the month: The General Election. It should be an interesting and lively discussion and we always have a great time. Additions to the Parish Necrology. At our November 6th Evensong for All Saints we will give thanks and remember those who have gone before us with the reading of the Parish Necrology. Rising Strong for Young Adults, Nov. 10-12, Roslyn Retreat Center. Based on the research of Brené Brown and grounded in the Christian tradition, this workshop is about showing up as our deepest selves. In it we will delve into our individual stories, especially those of struggle, and All Saint’s Bike Ride, Saturday, November 5th at 9:00 AM, Saint George’s Parking Lot. Each fall, St. Georgians learn to let go of who we think we ought to be so that we might be who we are. The cost is $25.00 (includes overnight who like to bike get together to ride along the W&OD bike trail to Vienna. Bring your helmet. EYC EYC stands for Episcopal Youth in Community and is St. George's youth group, which is for grades 6-12. We meet a couple of times a month for fellowship, formation, or community-service oriented activities. This year, we will generally meet on the first Sunday of each month. ~Sarah, Parks, Haley.

Meals of Wheels Needs You!!! St. George's MOW (Meals on Wheels) route on the second Wednesday of each month needs another volunteer. You will partner with an experienced volunteer in delivering meals to Arlingtonians who are unable to prepare food for themselves. The food is prepared by Arlington CounPlot Against Hunger garden final harvest and cleanup day ty. Volunteers bag it up and deliver it. The route takes a in the early afternoon on Sunday, Nov. 6. We will have little more than one hour, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.
