CSCA Christmas Musical The Coral Springs Christian Academy Drama Department will present Searching for the King, a one-of-a-kind dramatic Christmas musical. This dynamic contemporary story parallels the biblical story and delivers a powerful, relevant message. The exciting script juxtaposes one of the Magi (Mordecai) following the Star of Bethlehem, with Benjamin, a modern day soldier stationed in the Middle East, looking up at the same stars. Both are searching for the truth, and both find it at the foot of the manger. The musical will be held in the FPC sanctuary, Thursday, December 4th at 1:00 PM, Friday, December 5th and Saturday, December 6th at 7:00 PM. Tickets are available at the door. Adults: $7. Students: $3. For more information email Yesi Rodriguez at [email protected] or Monica Colon at [email protected]. For reserved seating, see CJ in the breezeway after the worship service or email her at [email protected].

Building the Family of God -Ephesians 2:19-22 First Presbyterian Church is a reformed, confessional, ordinary means of grace congregation that exists to exalt God, edify and equip the saints, evangelize the lost, and extend the love, mercy, and mission of Christ locally and around the world. Reformed: We find our roots in the 16th century Protestant Reformation and affirm the five solas

of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone), Sola Fide (Faith Alone), Solus Christus (Christ Alone), Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) and Soli Deo Gloria (To the Glory of God Alone).

Confessional: As a member church of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), we embrace

and confess that the doctrine found in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Shorter and Larger Catechism is the most faithful summary of scriptural teaching. The PCA’s slogan encapsulates well our beliefs: “Faithful to the Scriptures, True to the Reformed Faith, Obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.”

Ordinary Means of Grace: We believe God builds His Church and promises to bless Her

through His ordinary means of grace, which are: the Word (especially preaching), Sacraments (biblically regulated worship), and Prayer.

First Presbyterian Church is committed to the primacy of corporate worship. Regular attendance to the ordinary means of grace is vital for believers’ spiritual nourishment and growth in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. God’s people are therefore called to participate regularly in the Lord’s Day corporate worship, in dependence upon God’s Spirit who applies Christ’s benefits through His Word, prayer, and the sacraments. As such, we encourage you and your family to consider the various ministries, fellowship events, and educational opportunities, such as weekly Bible studies and Sunday school classes, as complementary to corporate worship, but never as replacement of corporate worship. The Confession of Sin

Gracious Lord, we confess that we dishonor You in our words, thoughts and deeds. Depending on our strength, we stumble. Glorying in our own righteousness, we reject You. Turning our faces from You, we desire the things of this world to satisfy us. We pray now, Lord, for You to forgive all of our many sins; to cleanse the darkness from our lives, and to turn our faces and our hearts back towards You. We pray these things in the name of Your most precious son, Jesus Christ. Amen

The Assurance of Pardon

-Isaiah 49:13-16

“Sing for joy, O heavens, and exult, O earth; break forth, O mountains, into singing! For the LORD has comforted his people and will have compassion on his afflicted. But Zion said, “The LORD has forsaken me; my Lord has forgotten me.” “Can a woman forget her nursing child, that she should have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget you. Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are continually before me.”

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below: praise Him above ye heavenly host: praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

And the Babe, the world’s Redeemer, first revealed His sacred face, evermore and evermore! O ye heights of heaven adore Him, angel hosts His praises sing. Evermore! Pow’rs, dominions, bow before Him, and extol our God and King. Let no tongue on earth be silent, ev’ry voice in concert ring: joy of ev’ry longing hear. Today’s Service

Today begins the Advent Season, which includes four consecutive Sundays: November 30, December 7, 14, and 21 which culminates on Christmas Eve. In the liturgical church calendar, Advent and Lent are the two most important times of the year. Advent focuses on the birth of our Lord and Savior, who became man in order to live a perfect life for us, while Lent focuses on His death on the cross, where He substituted His perfection for our sinfulness in order to redeem us. This year, our Advent readings center around the prophecies of Isaiah concerning the coming of the Messiah, who brings light to the world. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world; the one who follows me will not walk in darkness but have the light of life.” Today Pastor Drew continues his sermon series “Christ in Isaiah” and is preaching a sermon entitled Christ in Isaiah: The Light, based on Isaiah 9:2. In Isaiah, “light” stands for God’s blessings, presence, and revelation. John writes in his gospel concerning Jesus: “He is the true light, which enlightens everyone and has come into the world” (John 1:9). Men however, have rejected that light, and so John writes later: “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil” (John 3:19). And so this “light” is for believers, a great and wonderful salvation, but for those who reject it, darkness and separation from God. Our Hymn of the Month is Charles Wesley’s Hark! The Herald Angels Sing, which James Montgomery Boice believed to be the most theological of all the hymns in Christendom. The hymn text clearly presents profound biblical doctrine in poetic language. Ironically, Christmas carols as we know them now were abolished by the English Puritan parliament in 1627 because they considered the celebration of Christmas to be a part of a “worldly festival.” This resulted in a scarcity of Christmas hymns and carols written in the 17th and early 18th centuries. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing was one of the few written during this period. Wesley’s excellent text combined with the music of the great Christian composer, Felix Mendelssohn, has made this hymn a classic among Christmas songs. Like many of Wesley’s more than 6,500 hymns, the text clearly presents Christ as He is proclaimed in the gospel. The first stanza describes the angelic host praising the newborn Christ and inviting men to join them in their praise. The following verses present the truth of the virgin birth, the deity of Christ, His earthly humility, the immortality of the soul, and the new birth. Wesley’s carol is saturated with powerful scriptural ideas. The last three lines tell us why Jesus was born into the world: so we would not have to face eternal death; so He could raise us with Him; so that He could regenerate us into children of God. For all of this and more, Jesus deserves the combined praise of men and angels, “Glory to the newborn King!” For more than 200 years, believers have been enlightened and blessed by the picturesque manner in which Charles Wesley has retold the truths of our Savior’s birth. Please join your voice with ours in the exultant song of the angels, as we begin the Advent season, proclaiming your joy to yourself and to others that Christ dwells in you! “Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Sun of Righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, risen with healing in His wings. Mild He lays His glory by, born that man no more may die, born to raise the sons of earth, born to give them second birth. Hark! The herald angels sing, “Glory to the newborn King.”

We believe the only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continues to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever; We believe Christ, as our Redeemer, executes the office of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king.
