ROUND ROCK RANCH

Official Newsletter for the Residents of Round Rock Ranch January 2014

President's Message Dear Round Rock Ranch Residents, Another year has come and gone and our annual meeting will be at the end of this month. Please try to attend and support your HOA. It takes many volunteers to help drive our neighborhood along the direction of the board and various committees. Please consider getting involved and contributing to your neighborhood. It is a very rewarding experience and a great way to get to know your neighbors. We will have 3 positions on the board to fill this year along with several committee positions as well. Sherrill Erwin, our social committee chairperson will be stepping down, and we will need someone to replace her. This is the most fun committee we have here in RRR; organizing neighborhood parties and making sure everyone has a great time. Many thanks to Sherrill for all she has done these past several years. Paul Yehl, our ACC chairperson will also be looking for a replacement. If you are interested in the Architectural Control Committee please consider this position. This is a very important committee for our subdivision to continue its architectural standards. We appreciate everything Paul has done for our association. Jessica Quap our newsletter editor will be unable to continue as our newsletter editor due to new commitments this upcoming year. She has done an excellent job to get our newsletter up and going again and for that we are very grateful. If you are interested please consider this position as your contribution to our neighborhood. We look forward to seeing you all there at our annual meeting as we celebrate 20 years of our Home Owners Association here at Round Rock Ranch. If you are unable to attend, please be sure to send in your proxy. Lea Beth Munoz RRR HOA President Copyright © 2014 Peel, Inc.

(Continued from Cover Page) with a four digit access code of your own without listing your name in the box. Please email the board if you would like to be added to the box on your respective side: enclave-board@roundrockranch. com. Additions are made once per month. The Enclave Board will be meeting sometime in January – the date had not been set as of the time the newsletter was submitted. To find out when the Board Meeting is, you can email the Board or Sara at PAMco: [email protected] or [email protected] A topic of importance will be unpaid dues. Several owners are already in the proverbial “deep doo” and action is in process. Several others were in a spot that should be easy to dig out of with a payment pan. As of November, 20% of our operating budget is in past due accounts, leaving the Enclave starting off 2014 in the red. Collections are an expensive but necessary evil that must be incurred. Any charges for collections are charged back to the Home Owners but are paid out of our bank account until they make payment. Enclave Spring Clean Up is in the planning stages and tentatively scheduled for March 29th. Please email the Board at enclave-board@ roundrockranch.com if you are interested in either helping with planning or participating in the event. The Enclave Board

ROUND ROCK RANCH Pet of the Month January’s Pet of the Month is a collection of animals. This month I would like to spotlight the animals at the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter. In a previous newsletter, I featured my dog, Rigby, that was a rescued shelter dog. We have now had Rigby in our home for 6 month, and she has become a part of our family that we cannot imagine our hearts without. We were her forever home. Shelter animals are not bad animals; they might have had bad owners. As I am writing my last newsletter, she is snuggled up next to me and, as she often does, she sighs. I like to think that she lets out great sighs of relief that I came to get here that day I meant to only donate food. Go find your snuggle puppy, old man doggie, cuddly kitty, or whatever else they might have there that day. Pictured: Honey is a 3 ½ year old Shepard Mix that is housebroken. I hope that by the time you receive this newsletter she is in her forever home snuggled up next to her owner sighing big sighs of relief that she is safe, warm, and loved. The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter ( WCRAS) is located on approximately five acres on the Inner Loop in Georgetown just to the east of the entrance to the county’s Juvenile Services building. The shelter is a collaborative effort between the county and participating cities of Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Hutto.

JANUARY TRIVIA QUESTION The Round Rock Broom Company was first established in 1876 by Will Oates. What prestigious award did the company earn in 1904? Last month’s answer: Adam Quap correctly answered the December Trivia Question. What was the lowest recorded temperature in RR and what year? -2 degrees in 1949. Good Job, Adam!!! Each month the newsletter will put out there a random trivia question pertaining to something going on in that month. Be the first person with a correct answer on our Facebook page, and receive your name in the next newsletter!!! https://www.facebook.com/ RoundRockRanchHoa

The way a crow Shook down on me The dust of snow From a hemlock tree Has given my heart A change of mood And saved some part Of a day I had rued.

ROUND ROCK RANCH A Focus on Resolutions Resolve to be a better you By: Concentra Urgent Care The New Year is a great time to make healthy lifestyle changes. According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, the most common resolutions focus on losing weight, getting fit, quitting smoking, and reducing stress. These are important themes that can reduce your risk of disease. Here are ways you can achieve your goals this year. LOSING WEIGHT A weight loss of five to seven percent of your body weight can improve your health and quality of life. It can also help prevent weight-related health problems, like diabetes. Changing your eating habits and increasing your physical activity are keys to successful weight loss and help to maintain optimal weight for the rest of your life. Create a plan for healthy eating and increased physical activity, while taking in fewer calories than you use. Your healthy eating plan should include: • Taking into account foods you like and dislike • A focus on fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains • Consuming fat-free or low-fat dairy products such as yogurt, cheese, and milk • Protein sources such as lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, eggs, and nuts • Avoiding saturated and trans fats such as animal fat, butter, and hydrogenated oils • Staying away from foods high in sodium and added sugars

For more information on weight management and improving nutritional practices, visit the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases at www.win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/ for_life.htm. GETTING FIT Regular physical activity for at least 30 minutes each day, or broken up into several shorter periods of 20, 15, or 10 minutes, can help you lose weight, keep it off, and stay fit. It can also improve your energy and mood and lower your risk for heart disease, diabetes, and some cancers. Try some of these physical activities: • Walking (15-minute miles or 4 miles per hour) • Biking • Tennis • Aerobic exercise classes (step aerobics, kickboxing, dancing) • Yard work or house cleaning (gardening, raking, mopping, vacuuming) Taking the first step can be the hardest part. Start slowly, at a level that is comfortable for you and add activity as you go along. Sometimes, it helps to have a friend or activity buddy when you start out. It is recommended that adults get at least two and a half hours of moderate physical activity each week. Strengthening activities, such as pushups, sit-ups, or lifting weights, at least two days per week are also encouraged. For more information on getting fit, visit the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports at http://fitness.gov/. Happy New Year from Concentra Urgent Care! Copyright © 2014 Peel, Inc.
