April Calendar Mark 3:34-35 34 Then he looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! 35 Whoever does God’s will is my brother and sister and mother.” I was blessed reading Mark’s Gospel this week. The above verse from Mark chapter 3 jumped out at me as often happens when reading the Living and Active Word of God! “He looked at those seated in a circle around him…” Just before this, the enemies of Jesus were saying He was possessed. He was under attack. And here he was in a prayer circle. What a picture! The Savior of the World in the center of a circle of His disciples. There is strength and power and comfort and peace in a prayer circle! We, as promised, are also under attack. We have our individual battles and we have our church battles. The answer? A prayer circle! Good news! We have one every Wednesday evening at 6:30 followed by a 30-minute Bible study. Please come join us! It is important we pray together during this time. Verse 35 tells us about our family. Whoever does God’s will is His brother and sister and mother. And we are his brothers and sisters (Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters) that means anyone who does God’s will is our family! What is God’s ultimate will? The ultimate will of the Father is that we love, trust, and obey His Son! Church, we are indeed the Family of God! We begin our Easter celebration in a few weeks. I am looking forward to focusing on the life, crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Good Friday, April 19th at 7pm, will be special time of reflection ending with Communion. One cannot get to Easter without going through Good Friday. At Sunrise on Easter morning, April 21st at 7am we will meet for our annual Sunrise Service. We will proclaim the resurrection! He is Risen! He is Risen, indeed! There will be only one worship service at 10:30 am. Please plan to attend and invite your friends and family to come hear the Good News of the Resurrection!! Buckle-up! We are in for a bit of a ride. We’ve been expecting the construction on Hwy 146 for many years. It is upon us! We will be fine, and even grow through this period if we keep in mind our need for prayer and be part of the circle around Jesus! We can support each other through this by remembering that we are, indeed, family! God bless, Pastor Rob

April 2019 Lamplight – Send in the Choir From the beginning the Bible is filled with relationship struggles. In the book of Genesis alone, we find enough family dysfunction to last a lifetime... • • • • • • •

Adam and Eve’s failure to obey God led to a broken relationship with God. Cain’s jealousy of Abel led to murder. Mankind’s evil heart led to God’s judgment by the flood. Ham’s disrespect of Noah led to slavery. Sarah’s impatience with God led to ongoing tribal strife. Jacob’s deception caused Esau to obsess about retaliation. Jacob’s favoritism caused hateful sibling rivalry.

Through the years, peace has eluded mankind in more ways than we can count. Whether it be spiritual, emotional or physical, we can agree that there is always some kind of struggle wreaking havoc in the relationship zone. Recently I was reminded of King Jehoshaphat’s relationship struggles. In 2 Chronicles we read about the Moabites, Ammonites, and a select group of Meunites who decided to come against Jehoshaphat in battle. With a little study, we learn that this, too, is a relationship struggle. Yes, for the most part, it’s all in the family. The Moabites and the Ammonites are related by way of their grandfather, Lot. The Meunites are a mystery. They may not be related, but they are an army of bullies that enjoy fanning the flame of family strife. The alarming news of this vast army coming against Judah brought out Jehoshaphat’s leadership qualities. He proclaimed a fast for all of Judah, and then in front of the entire assembly, he cried out to the Lord for help. His prayer ended with, “We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” The entire assembly waited for God’s answer. Then the Spirit of the Lord came upon Jahaziel, a descendant of Asaph (one of the three Levites commissioned by King David to sing in the house of the Lord). Jahaziel spoke to the people... “The Lord says... • • • •

Do not be afraid or discouraged. Stand firm and see the deliverance of the Lord. You will not have to fight the battle. Go out and face your enemy. The Lord will be with you.

The people obeyed God’s instruction. Early the next morning as they departed, Jehoshaphat encouraged the people, “Have faith in the Lord, your god and you will be upheld.” Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing praises to the Lord. They marched out in front of the warriors, singing, “Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.” As they began to sing praises, the Lord began to defeat their enemy. By the time they arrived at the battlefield, the battle was over. God blessed them with equipment, clothing, and articles of great value. There was so much plunder that it took them three days to carry off what they could collect. Our God is good. Our God is powerful. He is bigger than any relationship struggle. He knows how to wage war against our enemies. All we need to do is... • • • •

Humble ourselves before Him. Cry out to Him for help. Listen to His answer. Obey His instructions.

And, don’t forget to send in the Choir... Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever! Remember this... you are loved, and you are always in my prayers. In Christ, Cheryl Scripture Reading: 2 Chronicles 20; Psalm 107, 118, and 136. Page 5
