ORGAN PRELUDE: “Voluntary in A Major” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Selby Lenora Morrow, Organist

CHORAL INTROIT: ”By Grace I Am an Heir of Heaven” . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . J. M. Hodges By grace I am an heir of heaven, why doubt this O my trembling heart? If what the Scriptures promise clearly tis true and good in every part, This also must be truth divine: By grace a crown of life is mine. By grace a crown of life is mine. Westminster Singers (8:15), The Chancel Choir (10:50) John M. Hodges, Director of Music Call to Worship . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Darrin S. Anthony WHYMN OF RESURRECTION: No. 283 “Alleluia! Alleluia!”. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ebenezer WEPISTLE LESSON: I Corinthians 15:19-22, 50-58. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Olin F. Morris (8:15) David T. Popwell, Sr. (10:50)

If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

WCONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Ebenezer

We consider it a privilege to have our children in worship with us. If your small children become restless and vocal, we invite you to the children’s room especially designed for them at the rear of the Sanctuary. They are also welcome in the nursery. Older children should also be encouraged to come to church prepared to stay in their pew throughout the service.

One of our pastors will be available after the service to pray for you or to offer helpful direction regarding your spiritual life. He will be in the Gathering Room, which is the first room on your left as you exit the southwest door of the Sanctuary (closest to the pulpit). You may also send your confidential email to [email protected] with questions about your spiritual life.

Join us tonight at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary The story of the great prophet’s triumph over the prophets of Baal. Considered Mendelssohn’s finest oratorio, ELIJAH is the dramatic depiction of the Old Testament prophet Elijah as he calls for a drought, helps the widow, shames and then destroys the prophets of Baal, and brings rain to a parched land again. The work is in two parts — our choir will sing all of part one, and excerpts from part two (for time considerations). All the solo parts are sung by various members of our own Chancel Choir, including the title role, sung by Colby Morgan. Please plan to come and bring your friends to hear this dynamic, passionate, and beautiful piece of music – it will deepen your appreciation of the story of Elijah.

Weekly Focus on Mission Partners

World Missions: Laurie Christie lives in Wycombe, England and works with EPC/ Outreach. Her compassionate heart has led her to a ministry involving several women in the area. After a visit to the U.S. to work on the development of an outreach DVD, Laurie returned to Wycombe in December 2008, which has given her a chance to reconnect with many of the ladies to whom she ministers. She is praying for job opportunities and for the opportunity to volunteer to teach English at a local college. Laurie also has plans to open a “Halal-lujah House” that can be used for various ministry activities. MissionUSA: Please pray for alertness and concentration for the students of Streets Ministries as they are testing. Pray that they would be able to test well on what they have learned over the course of the year. Please also pray that as programming comes to an end for the semester, students are able to reflect on the lessons their tutors, mentors, and Bible study leaders have presented to them and that the seeds planted during the year would bear fruit in their lives.
