Has Do Something Become Done Something? At the end of last year, I began talking to you about a new challenge—a challenge to do something. I challenged you as individuals to do something for God that you have never done before. I have also challenged us to do something as a church that we have never done before. We are making progress on some of those items. For example, we have 12 freshman enrolled for our new high school. In addition, we will be sharing plans soon about new opportunities of ministry at UL. Lastly, I have set myself the deadline of our ONE Day service to give you the details about a Spring 2016 revival.

Regarding the individual commitments, I would like to ask you, “How are you doing?” I think there is mutual edification in hearing stories of progress. So, if you have a particular story to share of how God has blessed your decision to “do something,” I would love to hear about it. Please send me an e-mail with your testimony to [email protected].

At First Baptist Lafayette, our core values are taken from Psalm 71:14-19… to preach the same gospel, to the next generation, until all the nations know, and do it all for God’s glory.

Sermon Notes

We are putting our series called “Altered by the Altar” on pause for one week to hear from a guest preacher. Our preacher today is Dr. Jeff Iorg, president of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. Dr. Iorg was the keynote speaker at yesterday’s ReGroup Conference, which our church hosted. Dr. Iorg is presently leading Golden Gate Seminary in relocating to Southern California. Please join me in praying for his pulpit ministry to us today. In addition to hearing from God’s Word through Dr. Iorg, we will be taking a moment to pray together for our administration, staff, faculty, and students of First Baptist Christian School. As you know, this year we are launching a high school to accompany our existing PreK-8th grade school. These are exciting days. Thank you to all who have given to this worthy cause to further the role of kingdom education in our city. If you are interested in being a member of First Baptist Church, I strongly urge you to come to the First Look Seminar today. In this two hour seminar, we consider the history and beliefs of Baptists and consider what it means to be a member of First Baptist Church. We will meet from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. starting in the Coffee Shop area. Join us there. Childcare is available. Continued on outside back cover

We are now only three weeks away from our annual ONE Day Celebration. ONE Day is a joint worship celebration on September 6th at 10:00 a.m. I want to urge everyone, even though this will be Labor Day Weekend, to give maximum effort to join us for this special worship gathering. In the past, these ONE Day gatherings have been very special, and our staff looks forward to having everyone together for this one service on one day.

Please consider joining us this semester for our FAITH Evangelism Training. Our training begins this Tuesday, August 18th, with an evening of orientation beginning at 6:00 p.m. Every believer ought to be trained in sharing his or her faith in Jesus Christ. If you have never participated in some kind of evangelism training, I pray you will think about joining us. If you have already been trained, please consider putting that training into practice for this semester of FAITH.
