Children’s Ministry Newsletter Partnering with Parents

It’s Just A Phase…Don’t Miss It Sixth grade can be confusing. Your child may still want to sleep with their stuffed animal - and also their new cellphone. Your no-longer-a-child has arrived in a new phase just in time for their body to outgrow their coordination, for hormones to kick in, and for their brain to become a tangle of new synapses. But, when you consistently affirm their journey through this sometimes-turbulent season, you help them gain stability. You can help your sixth grader love God, love others, and love life when you affirm their personal journey. Practically, that means every week you have an opportunity to…

Tips for a Successful School Year - Part 1 It may be hard to believe, but summer is almost over! Maybe that fact makes you want to burst into tears. Or maybe it makes you want to throw a huge party. Probably for most of us it’s a mixture. Either way we want to help make the transition as smooth as possible for you and your family! Below is a checklist you can use as a guide to prepare for the coming school year.

Try to eat dinner together as many times a week as possible. Establish a habit of asking each other, “What was the best part of your day?” and “What was your least favorite part?”

1. Establish a schedule before the first day of school.

4. Choose a designated space for daily supplies.

Before school starts, start waking up your family and sending them to bed at the same time you will during the year. This will save you tons of yawns that first week back.

Where will the backpacks go? Lunch boxes? This will help you get in and out the door and eliminate the potential for frustration.

2. Create a weekly check-in.

5. Set up a distraction-free homework area.

Choose a time during the weekend to huddle around a calendar with your family. Everyone can shares their plans and discuss any changes from the regular routine.

Determine what the rules about homework are. Will you require your student to begin their homework immediately? Give them an hour of downtime? Make a plan of what works best for your family.

3. Create a rhythm of table conversation.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES We have a great team of ministry partners that make our Children’s Ministry happen every Sunday and Wednesday night. Consider joining the team. It’s fun to get to know great kids and help spread the seeds of the Gospel in their lives.
